If you're a book lover like I am, you're bound to have old books on your shelves or recently bought from a second-hand bookstore that have book edges that could be part of a horror story.

私のような本好きなら、本棚に古い本があったり、最近古本屋で買った本で、ホラー小説の一部となりそうな本の端があったりするはずだ。

Dun dun dun!

That's why this is how to clean your book edges.

これが、本の端をきれいにする方法だ。

What you're going to need is sandpaper.

必要なのはサンドペーパーだ。

What I'm using is a P100.

僕が使っているのはP100だ。

And you're just going to have to use just a small piece of it.

そして、そのほんの一部を使うだけでいい。

Don't use colored nail files because color will pass on to your book.

色のついた爪やすりは使わないでください。

Scissors.

ハサミ。

And of course, your book.

もちろん、あなたの本もね。

I've already done the bottom, so we'll be sanding this edge instead.

ボトムはもうやったから、代わりにこのエッジをサンディングする。

When sanding, hold the pages together to make the task easier and avoid an uneven edge.

紙やすりをかけるときは、作業しやすくするため、また端が不揃いにならないようにするため、ページをまとめておく。

More sanding.

さらにサンディング。

As you can see, doing this produces a lot of book pixie dust, so better do this outdoors or somewhere you can easily clean.

おわかりのように、これをやると大量の本の粉が出るので、屋外か掃除のしやすい場所でやったほうがいい。

Some discoloration can't be removed fully, especially if it's more spread in the pages.

変色は、特にページに広がっている場合、完全に取り除くことができないものもある。

Look at that before and after.

そのビフォーアフターを見てほしい。

Needs more sanding, but you can now see the difference.

もっとサンディングが必要だが、これで違いがわかるだろう。

Let's try this part with a marker, but most likely it will just lighten because it's stained more on the page.

この部分をマーカーで塗ってみるが、ほとんどの場合、ページが汚れるので薄くなるだけだろう。

Do the sanding until you get carpal tunnel syndrome and your book edges will look brand new.

手根管症候群になるまでやすりをかければ、本の端は新品同様になる。
