I just want to let you guys know that we woke up here in Okinawa to some really bad news.

ここ、沖縄から皆さんにお知らせがあります。朝目を覚ますと、最悪のニュースが飛び込んできました。

Apparently, Shuri Castle caught fire last night overnight around 3:00 a.m.

どうやら本日未明 (10月30日)、午前 3 時頃、首里城で火災が起こったようなのです。

It's pretty terrible.

状況はとても深刻です。

We just go into the details.

詳細は次の通り。

They received a call I think the fire department at about 2:40 a.m. Japan time this morning, which would have been about Eastern Standard Time would've been about 1:40 p.m.

日本時間 午前 2 時 40 分頃、通報を受けたのは消防署でしょうか、アメリカの東部標準時では午後 1 時 40 分頃だと思います。

And they say that the main hall, nearby buildings have burned to the ground, and another building is, uh, was burning at the time.

正殿と周辺の建物が焼失、また、もう一つの建造物も燃えていたようです。

No injuries.

負傷者はいません。

This castle's been here for about 600 years.

首里城がこの地に建てられたのは 600 年ほど前。

It was built by the Ryukyu dynasty and was designated as Japan's national treasure in 1933.

琉球王朝時代に建造され、1933 年に日本の国宝に指定されました。

A lot of people in Okinawa are really bummed this morning.

今朝は、沖縄にいる人たちの多くが沈痛な面持ちでいます。

A lot of the locals perceive this as one of the highlights, one of the gems that Okinawa has to offer in order to share their heritage and their culture with the visitors and locals alike.

地元の多くの人たちは、首里城を沖縄の見どころの一つだととらえています。この地を訪れる人々だけでなく、地元の人々とも、その伝統や文化を分かち合うための、沖縄が誇る宝の一つなのです。

It's basically the first thing you do when you come to Okinawa, you want to see the Shuri Castle.

沖縄に来たら、たいてい一番にすること。それが首里城を見ることです。

And we went the first week, and you can tell by my video I was very jet-lagged.

僕たちも最初の週に行きました。時差ボケがひどかったんですが、動画からもその様子が分かると思います。

I was my first time overseas, and it was crazy but you can still see the beauty of the castle.

初めての海外で、びっくりだったけど、まだお城の美しさを見ることができるところもあります。

Just the devastating news out of Okinawa this morning.

沖縄から、今朝飛び込んできたとてもショッキングなニュースでした。

We have no idea what caused it.

原因はまだわかっていません。

Really, really a sad day.

本当に、本当に、悲しい日となってしまいました。

My heart goes out to all the Okinawan people who have been so friendly and loving to us and really taking us in as locals.

とてもフレンドリーで、優しくて、仲間のように接してくれた沖縄の人たちに心から同情しています。

We know that this is gonna affect them.

沖縄の人々たちもショックを受けていると思います。

This is this is part of the heritage, part of their pride.

首里城は沖縄の遺産であり、彼らの誇りなのです。

And we just want to let everyone know in Okinawa, and around the world, that we sympathize with what they're going through right now.

彼らの悲しみに、私たちも心を痛めていることを、沖縄、そして世界の人たちに知ってもらいたいと思います。

And we just have the great most respect for the Okinawan people and the history and the beauty of the island they've been able to share with us.

そして、沖縄の人々と沖縄の歴史、そして彼らが見せてくれたこの島の美しさに、心から敬意を表したいと思っています。

Terrible news out of Okinawa just leaves you speechless when you think about the people and what a treasure this building was.

沖縄の人々のことや、首里城がどれだけ大切に思われてきたかを考えると、言葉も出ません。

And this institute and the history behind it was just amazing.

首里城、そしてその背景にある歴史は、ただただ素晴らしいものでした。
