in Taiwan's history. The 59-year-old received a legal education

in Taiwan, the U.S., and the U.K, and then worked as a law-professor in her home-country

before joining the Democratic Progressive Party in 2004.

President Tsai and the ruling DPP face daunting challenges ahead.

and fostering a positive diplomatic relationship with China.
