  • - Hi, guys, Jessica back here.

  • I am going to talk about the hardest reading question type today, true, false, not given,

  • yes, no, not given.

  • Now I know a lot of you hate this question type.

  • I don't blame you, so listen to my tips today and hopefully it'll clear some of this confusion

  • up for you.

  • First of all, most importantly, don't think too much, don't read too much, all right?

  • Listen, if you think too much, if you stare at this question, if you stare at this passage

  • for longer than a minute, you're gonna get the wrong answer.

  • You're going to overthink it.

  • You're gonna think yourself out of getting the right answer.

  • Don't read too much either, you guys.

  • You should not read more than two sentences to get this answer, all right?

  • Reading too much not only wastes time, it does give you the wrong answer, all right?

  • So what do we read?

  • How much time do we need?

  • That's where strategies come in.

  • You have to have clear strategies, a system that you stick to every time you do these

  • questions, okay?

  • So for example, one of the most important part of one of the most important parts of

  • the system is the matching.

  • You identify key words in the question, you find these key words in the passage, and then

  • you compare, again, no more than two sentences, guys.

  • When you find these key words in the passage, read that sentence, also read the next sentence,

  • 'kay?

  • This is the only question type where I recommend reading two sentences.

  • You read the two sentences, and then you compare it to the question.

  • Make sure that all the key words match.

  • Do they all match?

  • Are they saying the same thing?

  • It's true, or yes.

  • Are they disagreeing?

  • Is there an opposite in there?

  • Then it's false, or no, 'kay?

  • Is something in the question?

  • Is the key idea in the question, not in those two sentences, then it's not given.

  • Again here's where you can overthink it.

  • If you think, oh well, God, well what if, what if it is given in the next sentence,

  • and then you keep reading.

  • You're wasting time.

  • You're getting the wrong answer.

  • Remember, guys, you're never going to be 100% sure when you try and find these answers.

  • You're never gonna be 100% sure, all right?

  • Take it from me, one of the students in our course, she just emailed me this morning,

  • telling me she got a nine in reading by following my system step-by-step.

  • It does work.

  • If you are ready to get the complete system, not just the tips on these amazingly helpful

  • YouTube videos, if you are ready for more, then check out our course allearsenglish.com/keys.

  • All right, the last step after you practice this system, you learn the strategies, after

  • you do that, the next step is you practice, practice, practice, okay?

  • With as many true, false, not given, yes, no, not givens as you can.

  • You will find IELTs has a certain way of phrasing things, certain things that disagree all the

  • time.

  • You will see repetitions, and you will be comfortable with this question type by the

  • time exam day comes.

  • All right, so that's it for me today.

  • I hope I have cleared a little bit up for you guys.

  • This is a confusing question type, but it's all about matching and being efficient with

  • your time.

  • All right, thanks for watching today, guys, and have a wonderful day.
