I'm going to imagine you already know how to greet someone with the simple greetings of, "hi" and "hello".

みなさん、もう簡単な挨拶の言い方は知っていると思います。例えば、HiとHelloです。

But there are four greetings I want to go over with you that you would use when someone you know well returns from a trip.

ですが、誰かが旅行から帰ってきた時に使う、4つの挨拶があり、今日はそれを紹介したいと思います。

So let's imagine a good friend of yours has just gotten back from a one month vacation.

仲がいい友達は1ヶ月間の休みから帰って来たとしましょう。

The first time you run into them, you could say: "Hey Dave, long time no see."

初めて会った時に、こう言えます：「やあ！デイブさん、お久しぶりですね。」

"Long time no see."

「お久しぶりですね。」

This is a North American phrase or greeting that basically means, "Hey it's been a long time, and during that time I did not see you."

これは北アメリカのフレーズあるいは挨拶です。意味は「長い間ずっと君と会っていない。」

The second thing that you could say to them is, "It has been a while."

2つ目は、「しばらくぶりです。」

"Hey Dave. It has been a while."

「やあ！デイブさんしばらくぶりですね。」

And the faster version of that would be: "It's been a while."

早く言うと、省略し：「しばらくぶりですね。」

"Hey Dave. It's been a while."

「やあ！デイブさんしばらくぶりですね。」

"Hey Dave. It's been a while."

「やあ！デイブさんしばらくぶりですね。」

The third thing you could say to them, especially if you are greeting someone you know extremely well like a family member is, "It is good to see you."

３つ目の挨拶は、特に相手が家族みたいに親しい人の場合、「君と会えて嬉しいです。」

"Hey Dave. It is good see you."

「やあ！デイブさん君と会えて嬉しいです。」

As well you could say, "Hey Dave. It's good to see you."

こういう言い方もあります。「やあ！デイブさん君と会えて嬉しいです。」

And the last thing that you could say of the four is, "Hey Dave, How have you been?"

最後に四番目の挨拶は、「やあ！デイブさん、元気にしてた？」

"Hey Dave. How was your trip, and how have you been?"

「やあ！デイブさん、旅行はどうだったか、元気にしてた？」

Now those are four ways that you can greet someone that you know quite well after not having seen them for a while.

これらが、知り合いと久しぶりに会う時に、使える4つの挨拶法です。

You can also combine them, so you could say: "Hey Dave. Long time no see. It is good to see you."

また、これを一緒にすることもできます。例えば、「やあ！デイブさん、 お久しぶりです。 君と会えるのは嬉しいです。」

"Hey Dave. It has been a while. How have you been?"

「やあ！デイブさん、しばらくぶりですね。 元気にしてた？」

You can use them almost interchangeably.

これらの挨拶をお互いに交換ができます。

I wouldn't put all four together though.

ですが、私は一度に4つ使うことはないですね。

Because that would get a little bit long.

長くなりすぎますから。
