  • I am making a basic T-Shirt

  • from my pattern number 1502

  • This is a slimline cut

  • which I have found is popular with both girls and guys

  • You have seen this jersey before

  • It's cotton, quite firm and not very stretchy

  • It will make a great T-shirt

  • It's 145cm, roughly 57", across the width

  • I have a piece here of 1.2mtrs, that's 48"

  • which is a good length for my T-shirt

  • plus extra for trimming

  • I'm going to prewash it

  • as most jerseys will shrink in the length

  • The edge is a little wavy. Washing will get rid of this

  • The jersey selvedge is not like a woven fabric

  • It can be distorted

  • So it's best to leave some space between the edge

  • and your pattern

  • Usually when you buy fabric that is folded

  • the inside is the right side

  • But often with jersey, as in this case

  • the right side is the outside

  • So be wary of that

  • This colour is gorgeous

  • and is going to make a great T-shirt

  • I shall wash it at 30 or 40 degrees

  • and tumble dry in the same way as a finished garment

  • In the meantime we can prepare the pattern

  • I have downloaded the pattern in size 34

  • from my T-shirts pattern page

  • This pattern is available to my Members

  • YOU CAN NOW BUY IT SEPARATELY!

  • I usually print using the fast print setting to save ink

  • as it is clear enough

  • You can see the difference here

  • The standard setting show up better for this video

  • If this is your first download

  • You can see how easy it is to lay out

  • The columns are numbered and rows have letters

  • Lay all the sheets out

  • Use some weights. This time I'm using curtain weights

  • Line up the sheets and stick with tape

  • The one inch square pattern grid will be in line

  • Always make sure your pattern

  • is printed to the correct scale

  • Print one page first before you do anything else

  • I usually use the cheapest paper - 80gms

  • If I think I am going to use the pattern

  • over and over again

  • I might use thicker paper

  • Cut the pieces out

  • So that's the pattern cut out. Front, back, sleeve

  • You will find that some patterns

  • have the two sleeves drafted to make laying out easier

  • This time the sleeve is symmetrical

  • So you can cut two the same way up

  • Look out for the next stage

  • I will be uploading it shortly
