I have a hard time remembering the names of the One Direction guys. Like, imagine remembering all these guys' names. ♪ (punk rock music) ♪ (Finebros) Okay, so we just showed you the latest music video from the popular K-pop group Exo. "X-O." Isn't that like "hugs and kisses" or something? I've never heard of them before. I actually don't listen to K-pop. Now that I've heard of them, I actually would listen to their stuff. Like, that was really good. (Finebros) And what did you think of the song and video? All right, like swag level to the max. Honestly, they can dance. It was good. Like, the song was really catchy. Just a really well-produced pop song. The guys were very talented dancers. I don't know. The music video wasn't that interesting, because it was literally just them dancing. A little trippy, 'cause once they were looking over here and there's seven of them. And they do it back this way, and there's still seven of them. But they're not the same seven, but are they the same seven? Who knows? (Finebros) So now it's time for you to choose your favorite member of this band... I need to pick a favorite? - (Finebros) ...and why. - (laughing) What? And why? I'm going with Kai, because of his pants. Tao, 'cause he looks like Tyler Oakley. Xiumin. He seems pretty chill. Suho. He looks dope. Kai. They look like dolls. Chen. He's got that bad-boy look with his leather ja-- well, all of them are wearing leather jackets. Lay. He reminds me of Justin Bieber a little bit, because his hair. And, like, Justin-- oh, I love Justin. (Finebros) So do you listen to K-pop music at all? (both) Nope. I don't really listen to a lot of pop music. Oppa Gangnam Style? That's about it. People kinda get into K-pop pretty deep, so I'm just like, stay outta that. I don't, but if I'm missing out on them, then I should. I had a phase in middle school. Taeyang, Girls' Generation. All types of groups. I used to listen to that. And then afterwards, I discovered EDM and kind of diverged. (Finebros) So this group also will split themselves up. There is Exo-K, who sing in Korean, and Exo-M, that sing in Mandarin Chinese. That's so sick. (Finebros) So they release albums in both Korean and Chinese. Even right now, you can watch this video in Chinese on YouTube. What? We should start doing that here. Wow. I feel so untalented right now. It's really cool that they sing the same song but in different languages so more people can understand it. Do they have an English one? (snickers) - (Finebros) No. - Darn it. (Finebros) So another thing about the K-pop groups is labels put them together. So they didn't just know each other? They got put together? It used to be you'd form your own band with a bunch of people you knew or people you liked, and then you'd write your own stuff and sing it. (Finebros) Other groups like One Direction and NSYNC - were put together too. - Really? Now I'm wondering what bands were randomly put together. Everything I know about music is a lie. (Finebros) So when Exo debuted, the label put out trailers introducing each member to get everyone hyped up. I wish we would do that. That'd be amazing. What? They had a trailer for a band? What? That reminds me of when the Big Three in Miami came together and they had, like, "Here's LeBron and here's Dwyane!" In a lot of countries, they try to actually make it so that you really connect with the people and not just the music. It gets you more excited each time you see each individual, so you're like, "Oh, okay, he's cute." This is gonna make me fan-girl. I'm sorry. That just seems off to me. Maybe that's why I don't listen to K-pop music. It's all about the money. It's not about the music or what they're trying to say in their songs. (Finebros) So now there's only ten members, because two members of Exo-M quit recently. Oh. That's sad. It's like One Direction when Zayn left. (Finebros) And they're suing the record label. (gasps) Dun, dun, dun. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, what happened? What happened? (Finebros) And that continues many stories of controversy in the K-pop system of the contracts being too restrictive. So this has not stopped Exo. They recently put out their new LP that this song was on, and it had the largest sales week ever for a K-pop act in America. Wow. Just imagine how the two people that left felt like. "We could've part of this, man." (Finebros) Their album is in the top 100 albums on the US Billboard charts. Here? In the-- what? Dude, that's awesome! Damn, that's props right there. The world is honestly getting so small 'cause of social media that any country, any talent can be number one just because of the internet. (Finebros) So will you check out more Exo? Uh... probably not. I won't have a problem listening to them, but I doubt I'm gonna make a Pandora station about them. Yes. Indeed, I am. Yeah. I'm gonna tell all my friends too. Yeah, for the sexy Asian dancers. I think I'm gonna maybe try to see if there's some Exo mixed with some EDM. Small steps, guys. At first, I was, because I kinda liked the song. But now that I know that it's all about money, it's all a corporate thing. But then, everything is about money. Everything is money or sex. (Finebros) So finally, how does it feel being part of the first generation to be aware that there's music in other countries and be able to actually find it easily because of social media? I'm honored. Everything is so connected today. This generation takes that for granted a lot. It's nice, because I get to be exposed to different things. Changes my mindset. Most of the music I listen to is from Europe. Say 20, 30 years ago, it would be so hard. Now I can just go on youtube.com and type in any name I want and just chill, kick back, and enjoy. I can go listen to things, and then one day I'll meet some guy who's a transfer student from Korea at college, and we'll be able to bond over that or something like that. It's cool to think that there's people around the world who all like the same thing. Thanks so much for watching another episode of Teens React. Let us know what K-pop group we should listen to next.
