I'm Esther in this video, I'm going to talk about the two similar and sometimes confusing english verbs say and tell say and tell have similar meanings but they are used in different ways.

A lot of my students confuse these words so I hope to clear up any confusion.

Let's start with say it is an irregular verb.

まず、不規則な動詞であるsayから始めましょう。

So the past tense form is said.

だから、過去形の形が言われる。

It means to speak express something in words or to tell someone something.

何かを言葉で表現すること、誰かに何かを伝えることを意味します。

Let's look at some example sentences.

例文を見てみましょう。

The first sentence says, I'm sorry, what did you say?

最初の文章では、I'm sorry, what did you say?

Maybe I couldn't hear you but I want to know the words that you spoke.

聞き取れなかったかもしれないけど、話してくれた言葉を知りたい。

So I say, what did you say?

だから私は、あなたは何と言ったの？

The next sentence is my mom said hi, I'm reporting the words that she spoke.

次の文は、my mom said hi, I'm report the words that she spoke.

She said hi now I will talk about tel it is also an irregular verb.

She said hi now I will talk about tel これも不規則動詞です。

The past tense is told.

過去形が語られる。

It means to say something to someone, especially when giving information or instructions.

特に情報や指示を与えるときに、誰かに何かを言うことを意味します。

Let's look at some examples.

The first sentence is he told his mom that he was tired.

最初の文章は、彼がお母さんに「疲れた」と言ったことです。

He shared this information with his mom so we can use told, he told his mom that he was tired.

The next sentence says Terra told john that she loved him again.

Terra told or gave information to john that she loved him.

Now let's do a check up In this conversation.

There are two sentences in one of the sentences we use the verb say and the other one we use tell, take a moment to think about where we should use say and tell A says did you blink that you liked her?

2つの文があり、1つはsay、もう1つはtellという動詞を使っていますが、どこでsayとtellを使えばいいのか、ちょっと考えてみましょう。 Aはsay、did you blink that you like her?

Remember for say something comes after we say something in this case that something is that you liked her.

say somethingは何かを言った後に来ることを覚えておいてください。この場合、その何かとは、あなたが彼女を好きだということです。

So A should be.

Did you say that you liked her?

好きだと言ったのか？

B says no I blamed her that I loved her for the verb.

Tell someone comes after.

後から来た人に伝える。

We tell someone in this case her comes after the blank.

この場合、空白の後にherが来ることを誰かに伝えます。

So the answer is tell however we need to use the past tense.

Says no I told her that I loved her.

So let's look at the conversation again.

Now you know the difference between say and tell.
