Today, we are talking about the simple past verb tense, also called the past simple.

今日は過去単純過去動詞の時制の話で、過去単純とも呼ばれています。

We can use many verb tenses to talk about the past, but the simple past is what we use most often.

過去の話をするときにはたくさんの動詞の時制を使うことができますが、一番よく使うのはシンプルな過去です。

We formed this tense by adding -ed or -d to most verbs in English.

この時制は、英語ではE DやDの2つの動詞を加えることで形成されています。

But English has many verbs with irregular past forms, such as say, have, go, be and see.

しかし、英語には、Say、Have Go B、Cなどの不規則な過去形の動詞がたくさんあります。

We use the simple past to talk about completed actions in the past and to talk about habits in the past.

過去の簡単な過去を使って、過去に完成した行動の話をしたり、過去の習慣の話をしたりしています。

I watched some funny videos last night.

昨夜は面白い動画を見たのですが、過去の習慣を語るときにシンプルな過去を使うときは、いつもは短いフレーズを付け加えて意味を明確にしています。

And when we use the simple past to talk about past habits, we usually add short phrases to make the meaning clear.

I took drawing classes in middle school.

中学時代にデッサンの授業を受けていました。

She ran every day for three months.

彼女は簡単な過去問で問題を形にするために3ヶ月間毎日走っていました。

To form questions with the simple past, we add the verb "do," like this:

このように動詞doを付け加えます。

Did you take drawing classes in middle school?

中学時代にデッサンの授業を受けていたのですか？

Notice that when we use the past tense, auxiliary, "did," the main verb, "take," stays in simple form.

過去形を使うときは、助動詞は主動詞が簡単な形で留まることに注意してください。

Negative statements in this tense also use the auxiliary verb "do", and that's everyday grammar.

この時制の否定文も助動詞doを使いますが、これは日常的な文法です。
