  • former examiner Chris Green reported from his website that child's topics repeat even the topic scene in the writing section.

  • This has also been my experience, having taught Isles writing using real exam questions for more than 10 years.

  • In 2019 alone, for example, I was struck by how many questions were almost repeated word for word from years earlier.

  • I honestly don't recall seeing one completely original task to question in 2019.

  • Everything had either been asked before or was some renewed it aeration of a question that appeared previously on an exam from last decade.

  • It is this helpful and relevant to occasionally revisit old questions to remind us of the breath of topics and lexical pools we might encounter on the exam.

  • And so in this video, I will read five task to questions from 2019 and analyze the topic and required response structure for each, which should be a helpful exercise that reinforces your ability to engage these topics and annihilates context.

  • The first question was seen in Saudi Arabia.

  • Many people believe it is better to learn something in a group rather than individually.

  • Do you agree or disagree?

  • The topic of this question, asked the writer to comment on how people best complete a task.

  • In this case, that task is learning something.

  • The response structure would, of course, be a straightforward argument essay.

  • You are this best to argue in support of one of the sides upholding your position.

  • Throughout the entire essay, this second question was seen in Nigeria.

  • In many countries, fast food has become a way of life.

  • It not only affects people's diet, but their lifestyle as well.

  • Do you agree or disagree with this statement?

  • Give your opinion and relevant examples.

  • Here we see yet another test to question on the topic of fast food, which is not uncommon.

  • Once again, An argument essay would be the best response structure.

  • This third question was seen in Turkey.

  • Nowadays, mobile phones and the Internet has become a very common aspect of socializing.

  • Do you think the advantages of this development outweigh the disadvantages?

  • Give your opinion and share relevant examples from your experience?

  • In this question, we see the common topic of mobile culture.

  • These sorts of questions almost always ask you to examine the effect some facet of mobile culture has had on society and in this case that specific facet is ways through which people socialize.

  • The writer would likely demonstrate a balanced examination of the advantages and disadvantages this topic before reaching their own conclusion, which would be shared in the concluding paragraph.

  • Question four was seen in India.

  • The number of older people is increasing in many parts of the world.

  • What are the effects of this on society as a whole?

  • What are the advantages or disadvantages of this trend?

  • Also common our questions to do with changing demographics in society, especially the overall aging of demographics in certain countries.

  • As we see here, however, although this is a pretty straightforward topic that lends itself well to many real world examples, this double action question is made particularly complex by its action words, which demands the writer commit significant portions of the response to defining the effects aging populations have on society and secondly, defining the advantages or disadvantages of this trend.

  • These two parts would likely be designated their own paragraphs, with the Conclusion paragraph, carrying out the very important task of declaring some sort of final thought that summarizes what has been examined.

  • The last question was also seen in Nigeria.

  • Nowadays, weddings are becoming bigger and more expensive.

  • Why is this happening?

  • Is it a negative or positive development?

  • Once again, we see here a request for analysis and comment on a social trend.

  • This is another double action question, so the candidates structure would again be likely to commit a paragraph to each portion of the task.

  • So our examination in today's lesson makes it clear that this spectrum of task to question topics and action words has remained unchanged over the past several years.

  • Further effective response approaches still focus on building the essay around an argument or discussion structure, so you should ensure that you've mastered these structures to the point where you can flexibly adapt, Um, as needed to your question.

  • This is fundamental to your ability to be successful in Test two.
