  • G - Hello there I'm Gav D - I'm Dan

  • G - We're the Slow Mo Guys. Dan, one of my favourite treats back when

  • G - I lived in the UK was a lovely pack of Maltesers.

  • D - Yeah, never used to be able to get them in America

  • D - But they have recently launched in the US so they're all over the gaff now

  • G - So we thought, being from England, why not give them our own Slow Mo Guys launch

  • D - Yeah 800 feet per second with this massive air cannon

  • G - Hello, America!

  • *Slight Laugh*

  • G - I'm here!

  • G - And we're gonna film it

  • G - At ridiculous frame rates (Like a Billion?)

  • G - On the: Phantom V2511

  • G - Shall we start with a melon? (Sure)

  • D - Yes. I've got one right here.

  • G - Let's do it.

  • G - Alright, so how does this device work?

  • D - Kinda complicated, but we've got high pressure Nitrogen here,

  • D - Fed all the way through a tube into here

  • D - Which is a: Regulated Valve.

  • D - Now this, when it makes a sound,

  • *High Pressure Gas goes into Tube*

  • D - That's filling up the chamber with pressure.

  • D - Up to 150 PSI

  • D - Which is regulated by that

  • D - When it stops making noise,

  • D - That means it's full!

  • G - Alright!

  • D - Okay.

  • D - So now we have our gas in here,

  • D - And this is like our valve to release it. (Wut? Half-Life 3 Confirmed?)

  • D - So it's armed, And then you press fire, And that's what releases the gas.

  • G - A Solenoid?

  • D - Uh, it's called a... yes! Solenoid.

  • G - Yes! D - That's right, well done

  • D - Venturi here, Increases the pressure going to the chamber.

  • D - And this here is our chamber where we load the Malteser in.

  • G - Ah, Okay. D - So that's where we go, and if it fits, it sits

  • D - So you put it in there, Screw it up

  • D - And then we've got our tube, here

  • D - *Makes a Wooshing sound* It gets fired along here,

  • D - With the pressure.

  • D - And our object that's going to be imminently destroyed sits here

  • G - That's the "Good-bye zone"/ D - Yeah.

  • D - This isn't gonna be here when we're shooting stuff.

  • D - This is a Tester to find out how fast stuff goes

  • G - What's our highest Malteser so far?

  • D - Fluke one, 900 Feet per Second (Whoa)

  • D - Which is faster than a 45 Caliber Round coming out of the Muzzle of a Pistol.

  • D - So it's pretty intense

  • G - We might as well be using a firearm. D - We might as well just be sitting there with a Pistol.

  • G - *Makes Shooting Noises*

  • G - Alright, then we've got a backboard over there to catch the mess

  • D - Yes, absolutely

  • D - Malteser (Looks Delicous)

  • D - As you can see

  • D - Ready to get loaded in

  • Pops in there

  • Screw this up

  • That's our chamber

  • Oh ok, so I'm gonna...

  • Gas the tube

  • Arming!

  • 3, 2, 1

  • Woah!

  • Goodness, me!

  • - I think we need to clean our glass!

  • - Oh!

  • That's the air?

  • - Ooh! - Flip!

  • What's that? Is that just all the air being released?

  • - It comes with a lot of air

  • - I need to adjust the exposure, there's a lot of air that's spraying and bright

  • Alright! I think we should do that again

  • - So we've seen what happens with one Malteser

  • But what happens if we do two Maltesers?

  • Got two here

  • See if you can bung both of them in there

  • One...

  • ...Two

  • Ready for gas

  • - Good sound isn't it? - So meaty

  • 3... 2... 1...

  • Woah!

  • - Bloody hell that was a different- - It splatted!

  • - You got hit over there? - Got watermelon brains on me

  • Here's our unsuspecting watermelon

  • just chillin out

  • - That was a really good escalation - Yeah

  • - Woah!

  • - One after the other!

  • - What do you think determines that gap?

  • - I have no idea

  • I mean Maltesers aren't perfectly round

  • so maybe their different shapes cause them to come through at different times

  • - That's opened it up, like an absolute beaut there

  • Definite evisceration

  • Look at the chunks!

  • How does something as light as a Malteser

  • - No that's right, two Maltesers

  • do that to a watermelon?

  • You'd need to use a sledgehammer to get that effect as a human, wouldn't you?

  • - Yeah - Unbelievable

  • - Oh is that the furthest chunk?

  • - That's the furthest chunk I've seen. It must be...

  • ... 30 meters?

  • Going to see if our Maltesers will go through a soda pop can

  • - Ready? - Yeah

  • - 3... 2... 1...

  • Woah!

  • Oooah

  • - The second one is so funny to me!

  • It's always way too late to do anything

  • It was like the can was a human

  • that got punched in the gut- the way it buckled down. Like "aagh"

  • - Yeah it did

  • - Controlling on the laptop today because we're indoors

  • And reduced the resolution on this one to 512x320

  • Not remotely HD, or even SD

  • We're gonna shoot at...

  • 118 thousand frames per second

  • just to get that crushing impact of the Malteser right around here.

  • - Arming!

  • 3... 2... 1...

  • Woah!

  • - I like how it seems to make you jump every time

  • You're the one doing it, and you're like "eek!"

  • - Yeah, well come on

  • - This is a hundred and-

  • Woah!

  • Did you see the tear on the can go around?

  • That must have been so quick

  • - I almost want to see that frame by frame - Yeah

  • Oh wow!

  • That's amazing!

  • God!

  • - Look at that flowering effect - That's so cool

G - Hello there I'm Gav D - I'm Dan
