  • Yes, please, please through Welcome back to my channel.

  • It's really fitting for this little scenario to happen, because this video is about how and what is balanced for me, especially work and family balance.

  • I wanted to shoot a video about to stop it because it's one of the most asked questions that I get on the David basis.

  • I think just like the nature of my job, it's very entrepreneurial, and I don't have necessarily set hours.

  • So I really have to make up my own hours.

  • And obviously, when it's your own business, it's not 95 fixing it with a family and having three kids, 11 year old Ah, husband and me in there somewhere.

  • It is quite a challenge, but I feel like I've kind of shifted the way I look at this subject, probably about a year ago, and I really wanted to share it with you.

  • Balance, in my opinion, is a complete myth because it kind of have an indication to it like you're doing something wrong, like work life balance, that something is overpowering the other in a negative way.

  • I just feel like naturally, it's impossible to constantly have it all balanced out.

  • That's just not part of the society and times we live in fields.

  • The challenge that most of us are facing these days, when we're talking about balance is kind of to balance the heaviness of work with the lightness of life.

  • Jeff Bezos, who is the founder of Amazon.

  • I actually prefer to call it work life, harmony.

  • It really is about finding that harmony, because work is not the opposite of life.

  • It's part of life, just like our personal time, our family, our friends and everything else.

  • So I think it's really all about trying to keep harmony between the two, rather than trying to balance the two, even saying it out loud.

  • Harmony bore Clive Harmony just feels better.

  • Then when I say work life balance, that gives me anxiety.

  • Anyways for me, I found that life work, harmony there, ST Aspect to make it work.

  • First of all is time management.

  • Second of all this commitment and 3rd 1 which is the most important, is securitizing, and that really is how I go through life and navigate through, You know, the work that I love to do.

  • There's actually quote that I read from a knocker that says the key is not spending time, but it investing it, and that's how I look at a lot of things.

  • That's kind of when I decide when it's time to really focus more on work and tip that scale towards that or towards family, it will constantly be moving.

  • And I think it's just part of life.

  • So just keep that in mind.

  • There is also an undeniable factor to finding that harmony in your life.

  • That factor is being in tune with yourself.

  • Self awareness.

  • I think that self awareness is such a powerful tool that helps you understand when it's time to reinvest into something or invest more time here or there.

  • If it's a work, if it's life friends, if it's you, it really has to be connected with yourself and not to be so much on Idol pilot to understand when it's time to step away or step deeper into whatever it is that you have going on, I want to share with you the 10 tips that I find work for me to help me navigate through all of this.

  • It applies to my business and actually at home is playing to your strengths.

  • Playing to your strengths Is that really something that I've learned from running a business?

  • And that is to know what you're good at?

  • What can you do that will be the most effective to your business to your family and really focus on that?

  • The other things try toe, outsource or ask for help with a delegate and ask other people that are better at doing these things than you.

  • For example, obviously when I started my social media career, especially you two, I was doing everything myself from shooting, editing, uploading, negotiating, accounting, overdue invoices.

  • I was doing everything.

  • Obviously I burned myself out.

  • But I also didn't give myself the space to be creative and thank God that I had Gary beside me to ask me the question of Okay, what is it that drives your business?

  • And I said content.

  • So I said, OK, so what do you spend the most amount of time doing?

  • And I was said editing, and to me it clicked right away.

  • If I'm shooting for one hour editing for eight, I was at that point already where I waas making an income from my social media career.

  • So to me, why wouldn't I reinvest and hire someone to actually do the editing?

  • So there's eight hours will be freed up to actually do what drives my business and what is the most effective for my business.

  • So that's when I hired ah videographer Emma, who is still with us, and that completely changed everything for me.

  • And then I could really focus on doing what I love and creating better and higher quality content on the home side.

  • I had kind of the same thing, so I knew that, especially when I started working or even when I was in school for nutrition.

  • I had limited amount of time and for me my question.

  • Waas okay, Do I spend that time doing laundry, cleaning the house, or do I want to spend that time being with the kids?

  • Obviously, I had the luxury to be able to afford help at home, but I also knew that it would benefit my kids and my family and my mental health.

  • So that's the investment that we did towards that.

  • This is the kind of talk crosses that's constantly goes through my head.

  • What are my strength what will move the needle to progress?

  • My happiness, my family happiness or the other side my business.

  • Prioritize your time.

  • I can't tell you how important it is.

  • And of course, all of you know we all have, like, 50 things on our to do list every single day.

  • I was doing research online, and I found this article that showed four different categories that you should put your tasks in, and that will help you to prioritize what should come first.

  • So there are four categories.

  • The 1st 1 is urgent and important.

  • The 2nd 1 important but not cogent.

  • 3rd 1 is urgent, but not important for is neither origin nor important.

  • I feel like when you have so much going on, just having those four categories and putting those task in which have a category it belongs will really help you to understand what you should do first, what you can keep for maybe later on today, or maybe even tomorrow, or maybe delegating it to someone else with a lot of time management articles and tools.

  • Ah, lot of people say to do a short to do lists or to prioritize it, but sometimes it's hard to really visually understand what it is that's urgent and important.

  • So these categories written down and putting the past to each category would really give you a better sense of understanding what it is that you need to attack first, knowing your peaks and lows.

  • And this brings me to the self awareness tool that I feel like all of us should practice.

  • This tip is really important because it's really you tryingto understand yourself, figuring out when are your peaks and when are your lows throughout the day?

  • If you're a morning person, then I would put the most high concentration past in the morning and not save them for later on the day or at night.

  • So really understanding what is the best approach for you is so crucial and important.

  • We're all so different, and we all work differently.

  • Anything that putting a strategy that suits your needs and your way of life, it just will make you so much more efficient.

  • And we'll give you that stamina to handle everything throughout the debt, scheduling your me time, and I actually find it more important than scheduling time for your friends and family.

  • Me time is scheduled in my calendar.

  • I literally have Valeri a lunch Valeri A go for a walk.

  • Malaria do this if you are a business owner and an entrepreneur, and you have to kind of do your own thing until the own schedule, Sometimes it gets so buried in work.

  • And then you get to a point where you're on autopilot and forget about yourself at all until you burn out.

  • Or even if you have a structured 9 to 5 job.

  • You know, we're not programmed to sit all day working, so I think it's very important to take that little walk 15 minutes T time for yourself.

  • Those would really kind of help you, too.

  • Breathe a little bit throughout the day.

  • Get your creativity growing.

  • Move your body a little bit.

  • And just remember that it starts in here, and that brings me to my next tip and its manager time long term.

  • So this is kind of more about scheduling your time, but further out So something did I started doing is to completely book my one month, two months a calendar, and that way I understand when I can schedule other things that pop up and obviously schedule every single thing, and every single moment is not ideal.

  • But for someone who has so many things going on, it's important to Dio.

  • I make sure the schedule families, birthdays, holidays, anything like that.

  • So I know that on those days on those dates, there's nothing work related that can be put in there.

  • So I don't double book myself, which used to happen a lot when I didn't plan for that long term and again, nothing is completely set and stone.

  • So this is just to give you an idea of what it is that you have coming and not to overstretch yourself.

  • My next step is tapping into technology.

  • We are so, so fortunate to live at a time where we have so many software, so many abs that can help us to manage your life manager time, get things done in a more efficient way.

  • So I think that using that is extremely important, starting from the most basic one.

  • I personally use Google Calendar and I share it with other people, especially in my office, that plan my work stuff so they have access to my personal calendar, so they know when I have doctor's appointment when I have anything with the kids, so they don't book anything there.

  • That obviously is such a more efficient way than for me to constantly call or to cancel something because they booked something and to get double book so that technology is amazing.

  • Another thing is most of my meetings I really tried to do on Skype conference call.

  • Instead of standing time to drive and see someone or get face to face.

  • I even do it with my kids.

  • Sometimes when I don't necessarily have the opportunity to leave work and come home, I'll make sure that I literally go on Skype with them, and I know it's not ideal, but at least it's there, and I had that conversation with them have cut up about their days.

  • That's just makes it a little less hard, and it kind of gives you the opportunity to do all the things that you need to do.

  • We all have super busy days, so, you know, using technology like timer like Excel sheets, Google calendar, Google drive.

  • All these things can make everything much more efficient and will actually help you with your time management.

  • My next tip is making sure that you'll schedule exercise as a must do and not as I should do.

  • I think that for me, up until I committed to myself for my health and mental health, up until a committed to exercise, I always looked at exercises like a luxury, as I should work out.

  • But I have all these things going on, so I won't.

  • And I really changed my mind in the past that would say, two years with how you look at exercising.

  • I look at it as a date with myself.

  • This is my me time.

  • This is a must.

  • It is in my schedules, and that's why I make sure that I have the set days where everyone knows including Gary, that Monday, Wednesday and Saturdays are my day where I do my training and there is nothing that can be booked on top of it.

  • I rarely rarely cancel my workouts and usually do it only when I'm abroad, but otherwise it's just a must.

  • So I think that so many of us look at it from the perspective off.

  • This is kind of ah, more physical of vanity thing to work out to make sure that we're in shape.

  • But to me, it literally what keeps me going and just fills me up with energy.

  • And it's my little meditation where I don't think about anything else but right now and what I'm doing at that moment.

  • So really, really, make sure that you commit to yourself and you show up for yourself.

  • If it's once a week, twice a week, three times a week, four times a week, whatever you can, anything will make a huge, huge difference.

  • You have to be realistic about what's going on in your life and really to check in with yourself at the end of the day and kind of scan through it and see what works for you.

  • What didn't work for you?

  • What you didn't do properly what you can improve the next day, maybe even writing it down.

  • I think that it's really important to have that kind of self evaluation once in a while or every single day.

  • If you can, where you learn a little bit more about yourself, that will just show you what areas you need to improve, what areas you can ask how from what areas you can be more efficient and doing it a little bit differently.

  • Very, very important.

  • I already mentioned how you should, you know, make sure that you scheduled at me kind for yourself during the day to get up from your desk, walk around 15 minutes, grab a snack, grab water, disconnect yourself from the test that you're doing.

  • It really refreshes your mind and gives you energy.

  • But beside that, take a break is to really be in tune with yourself and know when you need some time off.

  • I think that today, especially because of social media, we see people accomplishing and doing so much.

  • And obviously now this hassling mentality is so, so big.

  • But mental health and self care is so important, and it's a priority.

  • Without that, you really have nothing.

  • So yes, you see, all these people are doing things and going to the gym at 6 a.m. Myself included.

  • I always share, you know, everything that I do.

  • But I do want you guys to know and to realize.

  • And two keep in mind that I am very aware of what's going on here, and when I feel like it's too much when I feel like I need a break.

  • I take that break.

  • If it's going on social media for a little bit, it's turning off my phone.

  • So I make sure that, you know, if I need to book a day off if I need to go for a little holiday, I do that.

  • I think that we only to remember that we're not machines.

  • They're just make sure that you realizing when you're approaching kind of the breaking point and not wait until you already burnt out to understand that you needed a break.

  • So very important to keep in mind.

  • Take that holiday.

  • And, um, it actually is the same a step number nine.

  • So I'm not even going to repeat it.

  • I feel like I wrote it twice because this is a sign the universe is sending a son to myself where I actually made a sign to myself to understand that I'm actually getting to a point where you need a break.

  • I'm getting a little bit sick, and I feel like I just kind of exhausted myself.

  • I had a very, very busy two weeks, and I feel like I've been really, like, kind of running without taking any breaths in between.
