So we have a brand new flagship device from LG.
This is the G eight thin Q.
It's the latest expensive phone from LG.
Not necessarily budget minded.
What do you get for your cash?
What do you get for your money?
It's gonna have a snapdragon 8 55 So it's gonna have the chip that you're looking for.
It's only got a duel Camera set up on the back Now, once upon a time that was down was cool.
That was good enough.
We're now seeing quad camera a raise on the back of smartphones.
If you look inside a bus here, you see this.
A DTs built in that is one area that LG remains focused on analog audio designated headphone Jack with a decent amplifier on it.
It's 128 gigs of storage.
Six Gigs of Ram has a 35 100 Milan power battery.
Now, another area where it's a bit different than some of its competitors, namely Samsung, is the fact that it has a dedicated button for Google assistant.
Not Bixby.
Not anything proprietary straightaway, little micro fiber cloth, air motions.
This is another area where algae is trying to be a bit different.
Pick up your hand when not touching the device, they can see it.
You can use it to unlock the phone and also interact with it.
It's got crystal sound.
Oh, lead.
So the sound is gonna be delivered through the glass panel.
They actually give you a second year manufacturer's warranty.
Oh, LG is also throw in a case in straightforward type of case, and they've included a headset and in ear fit with the interchangeable ear tips, as he could see there.
Factory fresh slide right out of their fresh piano black appearance.
Up here, you could see the dual cameras set up.
They do not protrude at all that solid.
It's been a while since you've seen this type of a set up on a smartphone in the right light.
It almost goes bluish.
You see that there, Jack?
Right there?
There's that headphone jack that I mentioned earlier alongside a USB Type C connector and your speaker and that dedicated Google assistant button looking all those colors.
Okay, Fingerprint boom.
We'll do a quick test on speed for that.
He's not the fastest fingerprint scanner I've ever used, but they got this crazy animation happening.
You're in the forest, sort of.
And then you hit the button and you zoom in tow the lake.
Whoa!
Yes.
Got a notch old school.
Not at this point.
Crazy how we're talking these days.
Two lenses, old school notch Like this old school when you used these new notch styles for extended periods of time.
This is the P 30 pro, I'm telling you, you get used to this overtime and you look at somebody That's huge.
I just noticed the Contra McGregor story there, Jack.
Probably catch your attention.
Civil suit against McGregor been dropped.
But when you have them side by side or when you're like me and you use them all regularly, you do start to appreciate the smaller notches.
In fact, my favorite one right now if you're going to have to have some type of cutout, is for sure the hole punch.
I'll just tell you that right now.
What's the resolution of the display?
Well, 31 20 by 14.
40 display.
So lots of pixels.
Now there is a skin on here.
To me, it's a bit antiquated when compared to Samsung's new skin one.
You I I'm gonna probably put a launcher on here anyways.
I always do.
Just like that other device over there.
Okay, this notch.
Let's talk a little bit about it because it's obviously big, and you're wondering why it has to be so big.
There's a camera there from facing camera right there.
You can spot it, but then there's a lot more notch that shows up after the fact as a sensor set up in there.
And that is to sense your hand.
Position your hands 6 to 8 inches away.
Your palm should be facing the front camera.
It's kind of like face I d sort of assume your palm much like your finger, is unique enough to use it as an unlocked method.
You can now unlock your phone with hand.
I d make sure your hand is about four inches away when using hand I d plus Give that a shot, huh?
That was pretty quick, Jack.
Let's see if you're just casual.
This is insane.
This is not gonna happen like regular humans are.
Not gonna look at that jacket has to be the exact spot it works as long as you remember exactly where toe have your hand, Jack.
Why?
Why, Jack?
Is that worth the extension in the notch?
Now?
Granted, there is other functionality.
Air motion.
It's enabled on YouTube here.
So you use your hand to control when playing music, banged your fingers into a claw and put the hand 6 to 8 inches away.
Okay, it's got my hand now reviews, and it claims to be the most compact, and it controls the volume Power adapted.
And if you're looking at the scale of that, even sitting in who thought that's what we needed, only having your bags and things that you mean.
Can you imagine doing this in your real life?
Your wife comes home and you're just like turn off the fall.
You all right?
I appreciate the advancement like I'm seeing my hand in there like a kalon.
It's like the why hasn't fully been fleshed out.
So while I applaud them for doing something unusual here, I just can't imagine using that functionality.
And I actually don't think it's a good reason to have such a big notch.
Apparently, this is supposed to be a good audio performer, so let's check it out for dialogue connector for now.
So apple finally switches the phone's over to type C.
Okay, so the whole thing is vibrating.
There's, like, a lot of base going on.
So in this case, they're using the glass to deliver the ear piece experience.
So nonetheless, a little bit of the high end is coming out of this region and all the base and the majority of the sound is coming out of this bottom firing unit.
You have options in here to enable DTs three d surround.
Try that out right now.
Like that course is Petey capable USB type C connector and then old, uh, prongs over here.
Now they do make another function of this non us North America style connector.
I kind of prefer it with it off.
This'll is not performing.
In my opinion, at flagship level, they put an emphasis on the low end.
But you you end up giving up like a lot of clarity.
It ends up feeling muffled.
This also gives you a nice screen comparison p 30 pro versus the L G eight.
Thank you.
Volume wise, I'd say it's in a sort of mediocre territory, but it's definitely lacking something on the clarity end on the high end, I should add.
We got the fancy back in there, so I should probably listen on some headphones.
All right, So you immediately get the option here to turn on the three D sound as well as the hi fi quad Dac.
So that's the one I want here.
I go into settings.
Then immediately.
I have crazy control over my equalizer.
I could normalize my volume.
Okay, so I'm gonna have the hi fi dac enabled and a digital filter as well, which can change the sound characteristics.
This is the default setting.
I'm gonna listen on this.
First, you're probably wondering what what's he doing in the equalizer there?
Turning every frequency range up.
I kind of wish this was a bit louder on the default setting there.
You kind of wish at least myself that I had a more volume.
So I just found a quick work around, go into the equalizer, picked the custom setting, boost everything up.
And then these things air, snap, crackle and pop there.
Ah, as loud as you would want them to be, even if you're me.
All right.
Now let's talk about the cameras.
You have a standard focal range cut, bam!
And then you back off into the ultra wide, fast shutter Thea Ultra wide triggers the HDR, whereas the close up does not.
So that's the standard vocal range.
That's the wide.
Now they also have an aye aye camp built in.
This is gonna attempt to figure out what you're taking a picture of.
If I grab the plant, it picks it up right away.
It's actually Wow, that's pretty nice.
That's some quick.
Aye, aye, Jack, can you see the flower icon down there?
Yeah.
I mean, that's a nice image.
Nothing wrong with that.
I don't think anyone's gonna complain, of course, is also full on manual mode.
If you really want to get in there into the details into the nitty gritty a portrait mode.
Of course, if I get the our favorite model here, simulate a human being, I like that they give you a blur slider.
We can go in there and modify it after the fact.
That's kind of cool.
Probably the only portrait mode that I really want to use is on the pixel.
When you're dealing with the computational aspect of this, it's either gonna work all the time or close to all the time or you're just not gonna gravitate towards it.
And that's kind of where I'm at with portrait mode.
A lot of the time, I've seen a lot of beard hairs.
Right now, it's kind of a good sign.
Very detailed looking image here.
Holy.
All right, Wow, that is a very aggressively detailed selfie.
I mean, the pores air Unreal.
I look terrible, which is actually what I'm looking for.
I mean, it's better than looking in the mirror.
Holy moly.
That's a detail representation.
Now it's a sharp image.
You can always go in and let the algorithms work if you want to and blast some beauty on myself.
But if you're not, you want to be able to toggle it back.
And on other smartphones, they seem to be doing some degree of beauty processing.
Even when you bring the beauty mowed down and looks like this particular phone is not quite doing that.
So I'm happy about that.
What's the deal with this phone?
It doesn't go with the in display fingerprint scanner that a lot of others are going with now.
It's got no camera ball, just only got a two cameras set up.
It's got a 35 100 million.
Our battery snapdragon a 55 gotta know led display, but it's got a bit of a basil on.
It's got LG Skin.
It's got the bizarre notch because of the weird hand gesture thing that nobody really asked for, huh?
I'm using a P 30 pro right now, and that device has a lot of things that this one doesn't got the crazy, flashy color on the back that, for whatever reason, in 2019 screams flagship, this one, it's just straight black.
I mean, you could make the case for people wore very audio centric users, Iron Man wannabes that wanna like pension.
I wish it sounded a bit better.
It's muffled right now.
Maybe that can be adapted through software.
All right, let's go ahead and get Willie dues.
Take.
I'm curious.
I'm curious what he thinks about this smartphone.
Of course, I'm always curious about Will he do?
He brings an alternative viewpoint.
That's the G eight thin.
Q.
What do you say?
I think they do a few things right?
The fact that there's no camera dedicated Google like the Google relationship feels strong here.
Like we're on Android.
Google makes a great assistant.
Here it is.
You know, it has a built in.
Now I'm gonna go against the green and say that the gestures are cool.
It's a cool technology going against the grain.
And I think lg he swimming upstream, they put a good emphasis on the tech itself.
The fact that it does work, it's not perfect.
But they took a risk.
And I appreciate that kind of stuff.
I can agree on that.
And I think that tech could be used maybe on TVs, stuff like that.
And if they really hone in on on just doing phones, they really polish it.
I think it could be something.
Okay.
But you realize if I come into the office one day and you're sitting on the couch doing that, you can call me.
Oh, you're fired.
