- Hello guys, good morning.
I guess it's not really morning where you are,
but it's morning for me.
I just dropped what we're doing today.
I thought today, it'd be cool to test another product.
So, today with me, I have the Oura sleep ring.
I guess let's get on with the video.
That's the worst intro I've ever done in my entire life,
but let's just get on with the video.
(bright music)
So the things that pretty much come in the package is,
it has a little charging pad and then the actual ring.
It looks fancy. I mean, I'm not gonna lie, it looks nice.
And I feel like it better be,
considering the price point is pretty high,
so I have high expectations for this.
I do have an Apple Watch which I think is about,
I don't know, depending on the Apple Watch you get,
probably about half the price,
maybe a little bit more than half the price
of the sleep ring, but the Apple Watch does have
pretty good sleep-tracking functions.
So, we're gonna see if it's different
for the ring versus the watch.
I don't know if your pulse is stronger
on your wrist or your finger.
I feel like, I'm ipsy, because sometimes the doctor shows
will do it on your wrist but then they also put that thing
on your finger when you're in surgery, so.
But, okay, let's see if this ring actually even fits,
I don't even know what finger it's supposed to go on.
It looks like a really high-tech ring.
It looks like something you would find in a movie,
where like you press it and it projects something weird
like in some sci-fi movie.
And I wouldn't wear this throughout the day,
I can't really close my fingers.
At night, I'm not sure if it would bother me or not.
It does have an app that you're supposed get with it
that pairs to your phone.
It looks like its main functions is to improve your sleep,
so the activity is actually part of that,
it gives you goals for your activity level
throughout the day so that you sleep better
and basically so there's a better balance.
I just had to type in my email
and now it's asking me to put in my birthday,
height, weight, gender, and what units I use,
which I feel is pretty standard
for most health apps anymore.
Now, it's asking me for what's my goal?
Let's go with manage stress levels,
I feel most teenagers have stress levels,
so let's go with that one.
Do any of the following affect your sleep right now?
Most of the times, I'm just like, school.
There's not even an option for school.
Oh, there's (laughs),
"I live a hectic life", that is mine, I clicked that one.
Get started.
Oh, wow, it just pulled up,
it was like, "Oh, do you want to pair?"
It's paired, I think.
Okay, it looks like it also has activity checking
as well as sleep checking.
So it kind of is just like a Fibit or an Apple Watch
but it's a ring, I guess, which is weird
because it's actually more expensive
than Fibits and Apple Watches and it has less capabilities,
so maybe the sleep tracking is just really good.
It's very well laid out, it looks really high tech.
But, it does look like,
I mean I haven't, obviously, tested it
so there's no data there yet,
but there are lots of charts and graphs
and things like that.
Also guys, don't be horrified
with the amount of sleep I get,
I think maybe get four hours right now, pretty standard.
All right, so my first impressions when I'm looking at this
and reading more about it.
I don't know, the way I look at it is
you can get an Apple Watch
and you can get millions of different apps
that do different things that track sleep
and exercise and stuff like that,
that will give you all the same alerts,
and you have lots more options.
And this ring just seems to narrow it down
and put it into one app, but I'm not sure if that's good
or bad because you lose a lot of freedom of choice
of which one you want and what different things you want,
for the amount of tracking it does that is pretty crazy
that it's all in a little ring.
I'm like, "Oh, it needs to be smaller",
but I mean, 40 years ago,
they would've been really amazed by this.
Oh look, guys, I already burned 3 calories,
just going like this.
So, pretty much, the real kicker here
is I'm gonna be wearing them both while I sleep.
I am going to be using a very credible sleep watching,
sleep tracking app for the Apple Watch,
it seems to be the best one on the App Store,
it has 175,000 four-star reviews or five-star reviews,
it's called Sleep Watch.
We're gonna be testing these to see the accuracy,
if they're different, if they say the same thing.
It seems like, basically, what it can do
is activity tracking, sleep tracking.
It does mention something about menstrual cycle tracking,
and it also does body temperature.
So, out of all those things, you can do all the same things
from your phone or Apple Watch.
The only one I don't think you can do is track temperature,
which is kinda cool, I don't know,
it's a thermometer or something,
that what's it called, right?
The one that... yeah.
Thermometer.
I guess it can detect when you have a fever,
or if you're sick and need to sleep more
or something like that.
But let's go ahead and test them, and see the difference.
(soft music)
So I'm finally ready to test the ring.
It is pretty late at night,
I'm going to bed a little bit later
than I would have liked because I had a homework assignment
that took longer than I thought it was going to.
Normally, I feel like, I don't know
the amount hours of sleep that I get,
but it's probably not what I'm supposed to be getting.
So I'm not really sure what these results
are even gonna say, honestly, I'm a pretty light sleeper.
I guess we'll just go ahead and test the ring.
See what it tracks.
(upbeat music)
All right, so I just wanna say,
that was the most sleep I've gotten in two weeks.
If that ring is actually accurate,
wow, I don't sleep eight hours, I'm sorry, I just don't.
Anyway, okay, first things first,
this ring is extremely uncomfortable.
I know I'm complaining a little bit,
but, literally, I don't know how to describe it,
but it's like my finger has a cramp.
I don't know if it's just 'cause I,
that hurts my finger, I don't know if I slept weird
or it was pressed on to my other finger last night,
something weird happened 'cause my hand hurts this morning.
It's bothering me today to have it on, but.
Actually, I do think it's pretty cool.
It did log my sleep results, it was really fast,
it was as soon as I woke up, it was like, oh.
I forgot, I think it said updating or something
and in two minutes I had all the information
from my sleep cycle and it's actually really interesting
I'm learning about this is my AP Psychology class right now
so it was, I see everything and I knew what it all meant.
It's really simple, I would say it's really simple,
it has everything laid out very clearly.
It tells you everything.
There's one thing though that said heart rate,
I didn't read it carefully.
So heart rate difference or something
and it said 20 beats per minute or whatever,
and first thing I was like,
"My heart was beating that slow?"
But no, it was the difference
between the high and the low,
I don't know, something weird.
It's really well laid out, really organized,
there's a lot information there,
a lot of things that you can do.
And I think the more that you do it,
the more information it has and the more it can give you.
So that was just one night but it was really interesting.
There's a lot of charts and graphs, everything like that.
Overall, it is pretty cool,
it you're into sleep tracking and stuff like that
it has a ton of information.
And, I didn't see my body temperature.
I was really confused by that, it just said,
but then it said my body temperature is good.
I don't think that's a good body temperature.
Anyway, yeah.
Those are my first impressions,
what I think about it right now.
I do want to, tomorrow I'm going to do it
with the Apple Watch and compare what they're both saying.
And then, we should see, based on accuracy,
I'm not really sure which one is accurate,
but I'm going off the Apple Watch as the base, so.
(soft music)
All right, so last night
I did the sleep tracking ring again.
This one's weird, I feel like it's not super accurate
because I went to bed at around one o'clock,
I was packing for a trip this morning
and I've been up since 05:30 'cause I have a early flight,
so I think I only about 4 1/2 hours of sleep,
but the sleep ring is saying I got 6 1/2,
so I'm a little confused by that,
little weird, not quite sure what it's trying to do there.
Let me see what the Apple Watch one did.
Okay, this is actually really interesting,
the Apple Watch says I got four hours and 20 minutes,
which I think is a lot more accurate.
That's weird that the sleep ring says six hours
and I did not get six hours of sleep,
I don't even think I was in bed for six hours,
so I'm a little bit weirded out by that.
That was weird 'cause I was gonna say that the sleep ring,
the app is a lot more detailed than the Apple Watch one.
But if it's not accurate, it doesn't matter
if it's detailed, so I'm gonna try it one more night.
That's super interesting though
that it says it says two-hour difference,
that's a pretty big difference in tracking.
So I just want to find out which one is more reliable,
which one is more valid.
(soft music)
I actually have been using the sleep tracker
for a couple of days, I found out
that last night when I used and I said that
the time was off between my Apple Watch and the sleep ring,
it actually just hadn't loaded yet,
which was weird because it did say it was synced,
the ring was synced to my phone,
but I guess it wasn't because it actually popped up later
with the correct hours.
In general, I think the sleep ring
is actually really interesting.
And it's a lot more scientifically accurate
than I feel like the Apple Watch one is
because it does show, I don't know
if you're gonna understand this,
but I'm learning about it in AP Psych,
but it shows the different stages of sleep
and it actually tells you about your REM cycles,
how long you're in REM which is the,
it's the necessary part of sleep
when you're actually dreaming.
And it actually tells you if you need to sleep longer
so you can get more REM.
There's a lot of stats there.
I actually thought that was really interesting.
And it did analyze your sleep very well
and it tells you things that I thought were interesting
like, oh, whatever exercise/activity level
you're having throughout the day was a good level today
because you seem to sleep well.
I don't know, I thought it was really interesting.
And if you're really into sleep stuff,
then this ring might be for you.
For me, I just don't care that much,
'cause I don't sleep in general.
I think I've actually been sleeping for this video,
I've slept a lot more.
That's my final reviews, I feel the ring is really accurate,
it's probably more accurate than the Apple Watch.
And the Apple Watch app I did use
I haven't paid for it
so I didn't have the full subscription.
I feel like the ring was a little bit better
at analyzing things and telling the data.
So if you're into that kinda sleep ring stuff,
this would be a good option for you,
because it was very, very good.
Hopefully you guys enjoy this video,
a little more of a tech review.
Comment down below what you thought of it,
and I'll see you guys next week.
Bye!
