  • Did your professor ask for an MLA formatted paper that looks something like this?

  • Let's see how to get there in the google docs environment.

  • Before we get started, just wanna let you know you can save some time with Scribbr's

  • free MLA format template for google docs. it's linked in the description.

  • First, let's choose a font.

  • You can never go wrong with times new roman 12, just play it safe.

  • Now, we need a header

  • which includes your last name and page number.

  • You can do that by clicking on the top of the page to open the header.

  • Make sure the font is also set as times new roman 12.

  • Choose right align, type in your last name, then go to insert, page numbers, and choose the one that displays

  • the page number on the top right corner.

  • The first page is also numbered.

  • For the margins, go to file, page setup, and set the margin to 1 inch, or 2.54 cm.

  • Usually, these are already set to 1 inch by default, but it's better to check just in case.

  • MLA format is double-spaced all throughout the paper, so make sure you set that.

  • Click on this icon and go for double. If you see remove space after paragraph, click on that as well.

  • Moving onto the MLA heading, choose left align

  • include your name, your professor's name, the course name, and the due date of this assignment

  • all on separate lines. Press enter once, choose centre align

  • and start directly typing your title.

  • In MLA, we keep things simple and classy

  • keep it as it is, no need to bold or underline. Capitalize all the words in your title except for small

  • words like articles, conjunctions and prepositions.

  • When it comes to headings and subheadings

  • there're no strict rules, you only need to be consistent with it.

  • Now, for the entire body text, it's left aligned. And for each paragraph, the first sentence

  • is indented. We can set that easily by playing with that ruler on top of the document.

  • Simply drag the blue rectangle to half an inch or 1.27 cm.

  • This will keep all the first sentences from the paragraph indented.

  • Finally, don't forget the work cited page

  • which starts on a separate page. Click insert, break, and select page break.

  • The work cited title is centre aligned, and the citations are alphabetically sorted.

  • You can use Scribbr's free MLA citation generator to generate sources easily!

  • You'll only need to copy the entry and format them.

  • For citations that have more than one line of text, make sure to use hanging indents.

  • So let's use the handy dandy ruler again.

  • Pull the arrow to half an inch

  • then the rectangle back to 0. There you have it.

  • If you want to know more about how to cite in MLA, check out the article below.
