字幕表 動画を再生する 英語字幕をプリント Hello everyone ^^ I am Daniela Titan today I came across this question on the internet "What is the difference between nuclear fission and nuclear fusion?" hmmm.. That's interesting. So let's make this clear! ^^ Fission is splitting an atom into two smaller ones. we need a huge atom for this job so we will take this Uranium here with atomic number 92! Oh! Look at this! Cute isn't it!! Then we will bomb it brutally with this high-speed neutron "nothing personal dude" and ta-da! the uranium is split into two little atoms! Barium 56 and Krypton 36! By that split we have a huge amount of energy released The energy in fission is a million time greater than the energy produced in chemical reactions Isn't this awesome? Now let me tell you a secret, okay? this reaction does not normally occur in nature. and ...wait fission produces highly radioactive particles and a lot of heat. Alot! and that is the kind of energy used in atomic/nuclear bombs Pleasant huh? So on the other hand Fusion is fusing of two or more little atoms into a larger one. here we have two atoms of hydrogen 1 this deuterium (hydrogen with one neutron) and tritium (hydrogen with two netrons) cool words, huh? Anyway, we crash them together in high speed and ta-da! we have a Helium 2 atom with two neutrons, one neutron is released along with a large amount of energy! What do you think of that? And the energy released by nuclear fusion is three to four times greater than the energy produced when we have a fission reaction. Fusion occurs in stars, like the sun. High density and high temperature environment is required in order to bring two or more protons together that nuclear forces overcome their electrostatic repulsion. And... What's that? It's the power that forces two protons to avoid each other, it's like having two + side magnets and trying to put them together; you can't. Here we have another pleasant fact! :D One class of nuclear bomb is the hydrogen bomb, which uses a fission reaction to "trigger" a fusion reaction. (since a high temperature environment is required and a nuclear fission reaction can offer that) and this bomb is the most deadly one humanity has as far as we know! Awesome..! So someone would say: "Why do we have energy production in both reactions since they are the opposite? Shouldn't one of them take in energy instead?" Hehehehe You see my eye? (WTF) That's because in the fission reaction we release the energy that keeps the core together that overcomes the electrostatic repulsion. And in nuclear fusion we transform the mass in to energy using this equation where Delta m is the change in rest mass of particles THIS IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ...isn't it? That's all ^^ AAAnd hope I was helpful! You can always ask me another interesting question to make a video and define it in the comments, in the comments subscribe and like for more videos! Bye Bye ^^
