I've never driven a car in my life, even in Canada.

日本へやってきたのは、１７歳の時だったので

I came over here when I was 17, so I never had a chance

カナダで車の免許を取る機会はなかったんですね。

カナダでは、運転免許証を取得するまでは

In Canada, to get your driver's license,

最大1年かかることがあります。 いや、それ以上かかるかも！

初心者の仮免許からフルの免許証までの

So, it's registration day, and I'm just waiting

to be called so I can do my registration.

自動車学校に申請する時に必要な書類は、 まず、住民票です。

To register you need to bring your ”Jumin-Hyo" (residence certificate)

これは自分の住んでいるところの市役所や区役所で 発行してもらえます。

which is a piece of paper you can get from city hall

名前、住所、在留資格など、全部記入されています。

that has your address and your status of residence,

大切な情報の確認の為にね。

and all that important information on it.

そして、パスポートと

And then, also bring your passport or photo ID.

やっぱり在留カードも持ってきた方が良いと思います。

I think your jumin-card (I meant "zairyu card" here DONT @ me.)

この三つがあれば大丈夫です。

card can be okay as well.

そして、今の私も、持ってきてます。

自動車学校で免許を取る時に、 二つの段階があります。

- Driving school is split into two parts,

仮免許までのお勉強と

the path to a learner's permit,

フルの免許までのお勉強です。

and the path to a full license.

一段階では、学科を１０時間受けなきゃいけません。

In the first level, I'll need to attend 10 hours of classes

そして二段階に進む前に、 仮免許の試験を受けなきゃいけないのです。

and pass a written test before I can take

それを受かったら、 次はまた学科で１６時間のお勉強をしてから

my learner's permit exam.

卒業試験を受けることができます。

After I pass that, I'll need to take another 16 hours

それから、 30回の胸骨圧迫もして

the CPR lesson, and it's really intense.

また人工呼吸を何度も何度も繰り返します。

They have us doing the 30 chest compressions

聞いた話ですが、福岡県では

In Fukuoka prefecture apparently it takes an average

but when I have confidence I usually make mistakes.

運転の時に気をつけないといけないですね。

I have to be careful not to lose my mental balance

頭がスッキリしないと、集中ができなるでしょうね。

and take care when I'm driving

まさに、そういう人です、私。

or else I can cause trouble because I'll be too stuck

本当に妙なテストですけどね。

in my own head, which is very accurate.

変な質問ばかり聞かれるし

So, the test is really weird.

運転と一切関係ない質問が多いです。

It asks a bunch of really obscure questions

でもやっぱり結果をみると

that have nothing to do with driving,

かなり正確だと思いますね。

but when you read the description,

運転の方ですが、仮免許書を得る為に

I think it is actually pretty accurate.

まず１２時間の技能教習を受けなきゃいけません。

Finally, to obtain a learner's permit,

これは、学校内のコースでやります。

I'll need to log 12 hours of driving

そして仮免を得られたら、次の段階では

inside the school driving course.

さらに１９時間の技能教習を受けながら

Once I've got my learner's permit,

路上や高速道路で走りながら、練習できます。

it's another 19 hours of driving on public roads

そしたら卒業検定を受けられます。

and expressways until I can take my test

to get my full license.

- やったよ、楽しかったよ！

何回か回ってみましたが

- All right, so I'm done, I had fun,

先生の席でも、 アクセルとブレーキを踏んだりしていたので

did a few rounds around the block,

実際、自分が本当にうまくできた

and the teacher helped control the accel and the brake

かどうかがわかりませんが

the whole time, so I don't really know how much work I did.

思っていたほど怖くなかったんですね。

I don't know how successful I was, but

先生も優しかったし

you know what, for my first time it wasn't that bad.

はっきりと分かりやすく説明してくれましたね。

The teacher's super nice.

今日はもう少し難しいことに挑戦します！

He explains things really clearly, really slowly.

今日はドライビングコースに入ってみます。

Today we're gonna try something a little more difficult.

And so, for the next few weeks,

うまくやれるかどうか、ずっと不安に思いましたが

I'll be going to driving school.

先生の皆んなが優しく接してくれているおかげ

I was really nervous about how it was going to go,

で内容がすごく分かりやすくなるし

but thankfully each teacher is patient

毎日少しずつ安心してきてます。

and explains everything in really easy-to-understand terms.

そして、勉強がうまく行ったら、

Every day driving gets a little bit easier,

一ヶ月で免許取りたいと思います！

and if I study hard enough, I'm actually hoping

どうなるのか、次回教えますね。

that I'll get my full license within one month.

車の免許を得たことによって、

国内で旅できる範囲が増えるというのは、 一つの楽しみですが

Getting my driver's license would not only mean
