これ、良くないですね。

That is not how you introduce yourself in a business setting.

ビジネスシーンでは、このような自己紹介の仕方はしません。

Maybe your high school buddy, that's okay, right?

高校生なら、問題ないでしょう。

You never get a second chance to make a first impression, a good first impression.

ですが、第一印象を良くするチャンスは一度きり。良い第一印象です。

I am shocked cause I've been to so many different business functions and networking events, and you see entrepreneurs and business owners are professionals, they meet people, very often, it's pretty awkward.

私はちょっと驚いているんです。仕事の集まりや交流イベントなどに何度も行って、起業家や企業経営者に会っているのですが、彼らはビジネスで来ているにもかかわらず、挨拶のとき、ぎこちないことが多いのです。

They don't know how to introduce themselves.

自己紹介の仕方を知らないのです。

They don't know how to do the proper handshake.

正しい握手の仕方も知りません。

They walk up to people, maybe not that extreme.

相手の方まで近づいて行って…、そこまで極端じゃないかもしれません。

But sometimes they're not so well-equipped with exactly what you just say, so today I wanna give you some tips.

でも、何と言っていいのか分かっていない人もいるんです。そこで今日は、いくつかコツをお教えしたいと思います。

When you meet with someone, how do you make that good first impression?

人と初めて会うとき、第一印象を良くするにはどうしたら良いでしょうか？

How do you introduce yourself or, sometimes, how do you introduce others?

自己紹介はどのようにしたら良いでしょうか？また、連れの人を紹介するにはどうしたら良いでしょう？

Maybe you wanna introduce this person to this person.

自分の連れの人を相手に紹介したいということもあるでしょう。

What's the proper way to do that in a, kind of business, more formal setting, okay?

ビジネスシーンや、もっとかしこまった場面での正しい紹介の仕方とは、どんなものでしょう？

So when you meet someone, like a stranger or someone that you just meet, you don't want to be overly excited.

誰か人に会うとき、見知らぬ人や、そこで初めて会ったという人に対しては、おおげさに振舞うのはやめておきましょう。

You don't want to be overly eager.

がっつきすぎてはいけません。

Like, (for) example, you meet someone, "Hey, nice to meet you!"

例えば、誰かに会って、「どうも～！はっじめまして！」みたいなのとか、

You're shaking their hand like, "Oh yeah, very nice to meet you!"

握手しながら、「やあ、どうもどうも。お会いできてメチャメチャ嬉しいです！」

You don't want to do that.

などというのは やめておきましょう。

You want to be nice and calm.

感じよく、落ち着いた感じでいきましょう。

You want to be a professional.

ビジネスにふさわしい振る舞いが必要です。

If you're an introvert and you're meeting someone, take your time, right?

内気な人は、誰かと会うときは、焦らないようにね。

Slow down, just put your hand, just, "Hey."

ゆっくりと、手を差し出して、ただ「どうも」という具合です。

And you can, let me give you a very simple way to introducing yourself.

こんなのも良いでしょう。とてもシンプルな自己紹介の方法をお教えします。

"My name is..."

「私は…と申します。」

And you wanna take your time.

このとき、焦らずに落ち着いて言ってください。

I notice a lot of people, when they introduce their name, especially if your name, it's more difficult to pronounce.

気になるのは、自分の名前を名乗るとき、特に名前の発音が難しい場合、

Or maybe, with your last name, it's not so common, right?

もしくは、苗字があまり一般的ではない場合です。

Then, take your time.

そういったときは、ていねいに名前を言いましょう。

Enunciate it.

はっきりと発音します。

Slow down.

ゆっくりとね。

So don't just rush it, then people don't understand.

焦ってはいけませんよ。相手を混乱させてしまいますから。

They don't remember your name, so "My name is..." take your time.

名前を覚えてもらえないことになってしまうので、名前を言うときは、ゆっくりとです。

So, my name is Dan Lok.

では、私はダン・ロックと申します。

Lok, Dan Lok.

ロック。ダン・ロックです。

From there, right?

そこからです。いいですか？

"My name is...", your hand, like this.

「私は…と申します」と言って手を差し出します。こんなふうに。

Shake the hand, firm handshake, just like that.

そして握手。しっかりと握ります。こんな感じ。

Sometimes you might do something like this, your handshake, and then you put your hand over the shoulders like that, that's good too.

こんなふうにするのが良いこともあるでしょう。握手をして、手を相手の肩にこのように置く。こんなのも良いですね。

"My name is...", so if you want to be a little bit more, just a tiny little bit more intimate from here to here.

「私は…と申します」と言って、少しだけ、ほんの少しだけ近くに寄ります。ここから、このあたりくらいまでね。

You want to build that connection.

ここで繋がりを作るのです。

"It's a pleasure meeting you."

「お会いできて嬉しいです。」

So, "My name is Dan Lok,"

「私はダン・ロックと申します。」

Shake hand, "It's a pleasure meeting you."

握手して、「お会いできて嬉しいです。」

See that?

お分かりいただけましたか？

とても、とてもシンプルなんです。

Very, very simple.

とても、とてもシンプル。

When you're introducing others, sometimes what you want to do is, "Let me introduce you to my friend here."

誰かを紹介したいときは、「私の連れを紹介させてください」というふうに紹介するのも良いでしょう。

Right, and you want to introduce them.

そう、あなたが紹介してあげるのです。

It's almost like you're presenting someone.

あなたが、その人物の存在を知らせる感覚です。

What you don't want to do is this.

良くないのはこんな感じ。

"Hey, here's my friend here."

「ねえ、この人おれの友達なんだけど。」

You see how, like, who is this person?

分かりますか？この人は一体誰？みたいな感じですよね？

You want to set this person up for success, make an intro properly.

その人物の印象を良くしたいなら、正しいスタートを切りましょう。

It's almost you present "Hey, this is my friend, John here."

「すみません、こちらは私の友人で、ジョンと言います」というような感じで。

From here, you're presenting, like that, and from here.

このあたりから、このように紹介して…。ここからね。

A very, very simple thing.

とても、とてもシンプルなことです。

But you notice, most people don't do it well.

ですが、お気づきの通り、ほとんどの人がうまくできていません。

So when you're introducing yourself, now, sometimes you can say, "It's a pleasure to meet you."

また、自己紹介をするときは、こんな言い方もできますね。「お会いできて嬉しいです。」

Sometimes you can say, "Nice to meet you" depends on the setting.

または、「お会いできて光栄です。」状況によりますね。

But you've got to practice it.

ただし、練習が必要です。

You've got to be practicing the timing of it.

タイミングなど、練習しておかなければなりません。

As simple as that, the first few seconds, that's how you make the first impression.

とてもシンプルなことなので、最初の数秒で第一印象が決まってしまいます。

And from there, you might say, transition that into a second questions.

そしてそこから、次の質問などに移行していくと良いでしょう。

So, "Hi my name is Dan Lok."

では、「どうも、私はダン・ロックと申します。」

"Very nice to meet you."

「お会いできて、大変光栄です。」

Right?

ね？

"What brought you to this event?"

「どのような経緯でこのイベントにいらしたのですか？」

From there, you can have a dialogue.

ここから、対話をすることができるようになります。

You can get to understand more of what they do, how you can add value, what business are they in, just go from there.

そこにいるだけで、相手の仕事だけでなく、どうやったら自分が相手にとって価値があると思ってもらえるか、今現在、相手がどのようなビジネスに携わっているのかなど知ることができます。

And making eye contact, make sure when you're making eye contact, you don't, let me do a wrong way.

そしてアイコンタクトです。アイコンタクトをするときは次のようなやり方は良くありません。間違ったやり方をやってみますね。

"Oh hi, yeah, my name is Dan Lok, and nice to meet you."

「あ、どうも、私はダン・ロックと申します、よろしくお願いします。」

See how I'm not making eye contact, you feel like you're hiding something.

きちんと目を合わせていませんよね。何か後ろめたいことでもあるのかなと感じさせてしまいます。

Look at them, look them in the eyes.

相手をしっかり見ましょう。相手の目を見るのです。

"Hi, my name is Dan Lok.

「どうも、私はダン・ロックと申します。」

"Very nice to meet you."

「お会いできて大変光栄です。」

See?

ね？

"So what brought you to this event?"

「どういった経緯でこのイベントにいらしたのですか？」

Boom, just like that.

ざっと、こんな感じです。

So, practice it.
