I think it's a tough time, and here's why.

I was writing on a TV show last year.

去年、TV 番組の台本を書いてたんですね。

At the end of the show, when it was cancelled, I checked my bank balance on my phone.

And on my phone I saw that I had 5,421 dollars.

Not to brag.

別に自慢するわけじゃないけど。

And this is how little I know about being an adult.

で、ボクってまだまだオトナになれないんで

I saw the bank balance on the screen and I thought to myself - with no irony.

画面の残高を見て、こう思ったんです。冗談抜きで。

I should buy a house.

「家でも買おうか」って。

Not a big house, one of those small 5,000 dollar houses.

そんなに大きくなくていいんで、5000 ドルで買える程度のヤツですよ。

How is any millennial ever gonna own a home?

ミレニアル世代が家を持つなんてあり得ないでしょ？

How is any young person ever gonna own a home?

若者が家を買えるような社会じゃないもん！

It seems impossible, and it's made me hate old people.

ほぼ不可能ですからね。だからボクはお年寄りが嫌いなんです。

One has a dog with rabies, we'd love to get him out but his name is on the lease!

そのうち 1 人は狂犬病持ちの犬を飼ってんだけど、その犬を追い出したくても借家人の 1 人として書類に名前が載ってんだよ！みたいな。

And every old person's like, I'm a librarian with a country home in the Cotswolds.

それからお年寄りってみんななんかこう、「私は図書館員で、コッツウォルドにある邸宅に住んでます」って感じで。

Go fuck yourself!

And then there's criticism of young people like, young people live on their phones.

そのくせ、若者は携帯電話に住みついているみたいだ、って批判するじゃないですか。

It's the only place we can afford to live.

ボクたちが住める場所って携帯電話くらいしかないっつーの。

I can't enjoy certain television shows.

嫌いなテレビ番組もあるんですけど。

Like I was watching Spongebob Squarepants with a younger cousin - two years younger, we love the classics.

例えば、年下のいとことスポンジボブを観てたんですけど。2 歳年下の。昔が懐かしいねって言って。

And I'm getting angrier and angrier 'cause I'm watching Spongebob and I'm thinking... this sponge owns his own pineapple?

で、観てるとイライラしてくるんですよ。だって、スポンジボブってパイナップルの形をした自分の家を持ってるんですよ！

This sponge owns a two-story pineapple?

スポンジのくせに 2 階建ての家を！

Oh, he must be a banker.

さては、ヤツは銀行員かなんかだなって思うじゃないですか。

He's not a banker, he works in a fast food restaurant!

でも、銀行に勤めてなんかいなくてファストフード店の店員なんです。

And his neighbor works with him in the restaurant lives in an Easter Island head.

おまけに隣に住んでるのは店の同僚で、こっちはモアイ像に住んでるんです。

That's a listed building, there's no way he can afford that.

でもこれって、不動産屋のカタログで見たけど絶対にコイツには手が出ない額ですよ、マジで。
