Cities in Japan are very populated, and many people come into close contact with other people.

日本の都市は非常に人口が多いので、人々は多くの人達と密接に接触しています。

Because of this, people try their best to avoid spreading germs.

よって人々は、細菌の拡散を防ぐよう最善を尽くしています。

When it comes to sickness, people would wear surgical masks for two reasons: to prevent and to protect.

病気になると、人々は予防と保護といった二つの目的で、サージジカルマスクを着用します。

If someone is sick, they would wear a mask so they can try to prevent their germs from passing to other people.

誰かが病気になった場合、自分の細菌が他の人に伝わらないよう、マスクを着用します。

If someone wanted to protect themselves from getting sick, they would wear the mask even though it doesn't help as much as people think.

病気にならないように自分自身を守りたい場合も、思っているほどには役に立たないにもかかわらず、彼らはマスクを着用しています。

Another reason why someone would wear a mask is to not breathe in pollen during the spring.

マスクをつけるその他の理由としては、春に花粉を吸い込まないようにするためです。

Many people get hay fever during the spring, and in Japan because of the cedar trees. Masks would help in this case.

多くの人が杉の木のために、春になると花粉症にかかってしまいます。こういった場合には、マスクが役立ちます。

A reason some women wear masks is to wear little to no makeup.

一部の女性の中には、少しまたは全く化粧をしなくても良いために、マスクをつける人もいます。

If going out for only about 10 minutes, would it be worth it to spend time putting on makeup or would it be easier to cover up with a mask, hat, and glasses?

10 分程度の外出しかしない場合、化粧に時間を費やす価値があるか、それともマスクや帽子、眼鏡で覆ったほうが簡単でしょうか？

Likewise, some male and female celebrities wear these items to hide their identities when going out.

同じく、一部の男性と女性の有名人等は、外出時をする際に自分の身元がバレない、マスクをを付けます。
