  • Hi this is Tutor Nick P and this is Lesson 295. The title of today's lesson

  • is to go or be on strike without "a. " Yeah. This is where students might make a

  • mistake, especially students of ESL They may say somebody went on a strike or

  • somebody is on a strike. Maybe even a native speaker might make this mistake

  • too. So let's take a look at the examples here. Of course with the X, this is wrong.

  • Most of the labor union employees voted to go on a strike. No. When you say "a" of

  • course with the X, that's wrong. The correct one would be with the check here.

  • So most of the labor union employees voted to go on strike. That would be

  • correct. All right. Let's continue. Take a look at the second one again with the X.

  • This is wrong. He didn't want to go on a strike because he cannot afford to miss

  • any pay. All right. Again you should say he didn't go on strike because he

  • couldn't afford to miss any pay. So again no "a." And the last example here. Again

  • with the X this is wrong. Those workers went on a strike for two months. No those

  • workers went on strike for two months. Okay. I hope you got it. I hope it's clear.

  • Thank you for your time. Bye-bye.
