Hi this is Tutor Nick P and this is Idioms 255. The idiom today is to be
bitten by the bug or to have the bug or have the bug for something. Okay. Let's
take a look at the note here. If someone is bitten by the bug, he or she is very
excited or very interested in something. We often say someone has been bitten by
the something bug. Okay. Let's take a look at ... Let's continue here. The idea alludes
to that it is like someone got bitten by a bug that made them addicted to
something. So once you got bitten by it, you can't help yourself anymore. So
that's kind of like the idea behind it. All right. Let's look at several examples
here. Example number one. Her son got bitten by the travel bug. That's a
common one. We often say the travel bug. He likes to take as many backpacking
trips as he can. So he became a backpacker. Maybe he did one trip and
then he came back and he saved money did another trip and did another trip and
another trip. We say somebody got to travel bug. Well that's a common one. It
doesn't have to be backpacking too. It could be anything with travel. If
somebody really just fell in love with traveling and they you know, every year
they plan at least the one or two trips to go traveling somewhere that they cut
the travel bug. They can't get rid of it. All right.Let's look at number two. Her
daughter has been bitten by the rap dancing bug. The only thing she wants to
do is learn and practice more dance ... rap dancing moves. Yeah. So she got the
rap dancing bug or the last one you know, we could reverse it.
Another way you could say, Jack has the bug for extreme sports or he has an
extreme sports bug too. You can also say it that way. Every weekend he loves nothing
more than to go skydiving , mountain climbing , bungee jumping, etc . So and any
one of them. But he really he's really into that high that natural high of the
extreme sport. So he's got a bug for it. That's the way we could say it . Okay.
Anyway I hope you got it . I hope it's clear. Thank you for your time. Bye-bye.
