  • Hi this is Tutor Nick P and this is Lesson 307. The title of today's lesson

  • is \"Don't Say Hear a Language When You Mean Understand. \" Yeah. A lot of times I'll

  • often get students they'll actually say this. Or you know, it could be any

  • language, but let's , let's use the example here. So again with the X this is wrong.

  • So if somebody says do you hear Chinese ? Of course what they mean is do you

  • understand Chinese ? With the check or do you speak Chinese ? If you say do you hear

  • Chinese, I mean of course I really unless you're deaf, you definitely hear the

  • language. That does not mean that you understand it. You could hear the words

  • being spoken, but really what they mean to say is do you understand Chinese ? Can

  • you speak Chinese ? Are you fluent in Chinese ? There's a lot of ways they could

  • say that but sometimes they'll say hear. And hear really doesn't make any sense

  • here. Like I said unless you're deaf, you

  • definitely hear it . But hearing does not equal understanding. So let's go

  • on. Let's look at the second one. And somebody might say, I can hear Russian.

  • Now of course that would be a mistake. I can understand Russian.

  • I can speak Russian, or I am fluent in Russian. There's a lot of things that

  • they can say. Okay. Anyway, I hope you got it. I hope it was clear. Thank you for your time.

  • Bye bye.
