  • Hi this is Tutor Nick P and this is Noun Phrase eighty-four. The noun phrase today is

  • odds and ends. So it's kind of a plural noun. Okay, let's take a look the note here.

  • We usually use this term, odds and ends to refer to miscellaneous things or

  • items. Some different things that don't usually or don't easily fit into a

  • particular category. So we say "just some odds and ends. That's the way we

  • usually put it. So let's look at some examples here. I need to pick up some

  • odds and ends that I plan to use for finishing up this project. So it's

  • probably a number of things, but you don't know... like you can't put it all

  • into one category and you just try to make it easier to tell somebody. Maybe

  • you don't want to mention each one specifically. Maybe it's a little unclear.

  • Maybe you change your mind about it a little bit too. But you will say some

  • odds and ends. You know just some extra things that you might need for some

  • project or to finish up a particular thing. Okay. Let's look at number two. I

  • usually put some small odds and ends in these drawers. Yeah. Like everybody

  • sometimes has drawers. This is like a miscellaneous draw like you might have

  • drawers for specific things you know, for I don't know silverware or ,

  • or something else but you might have an odds and ends draw or a miscellaneous

  • drawer where you just put a number of different things you don't know where

  • else to put them. So you'll put them all into one draw. Where ...well let me see

  • I don't know what category that's an out must be an I just put it in this drawer

  • so you have all those odds and ends in a particular draw. That's the way sometimes

  • people will sort out odds and ends. And let's look at number three.

  • I have to figure out where to sort it means again to separate them you know , into

  • different groups of categories. And put away some of these odds and ends. Yes . So

  • especially when we we're not going through the trouble of specifically

  • mentioning what they are will often just generalize and refer to them as odds and

  • ends. Okay. Anyway I hope you got it .I hope it's

  • clear. Thank you for your time. Bye-bye.
