  • Company grows, as your brand grows,

  • there will be so many people approaching you,

  • wanting to join your team,

  • wanting to work with you or work for you.

  • Now one of the things that I do

  • when it comes to leadership is this.

  • That how do you differentiate

  • which one is good and which one is bad?

  • How do you differentiate what opportunity

  • to pursue, what opportunity you should avoid?

  • 'Cause there's always an opportunity cost.

  • Also, how do you know which is

  • actually a superstar, which is just a talker?

  • Now one of the things that I do when it comes

  • to bringing new people on board,

  • and that could be an employee, could be a contractor,

  • it could be a salesperson,

  • it could be any of the roles that you might have.

  • What I like to do is imagine that that person's a jockey.

  • How do you know if the jockey will perform well in a race?

  • What I do is I will always give them a lame horse first.

  • That's right, a lame horse.

  • I'll give you a perfect example.

  • So one of the key team members that we have now,

  • Blake, who's my director, first he comes in the company,

  • he want to help me to boost my Instagram following.

  • At that time I only had a

  • few thousand followers on Instagram.

  • So I wasn't paying a lot of attention to it,

  • I'm like, I was a little bit skeptical.

  • Would this work?

  • Would this not work?

  • And Blake came up with this amazing proposal and plan.

  • I said okay, run with it.

  • Now in the beginning I didn't give him a lot of resources.

  • I didn't give him any manpower.

  • I said do what you could.

  • I gave him very, very little.

  • He was asking me to even get some new photos for Instagram.

  • I said no, take whatever I have, see what you can do.

  • And he was able to do so much with so little,

  • be able to grow the Instagram following

  • as well as generate revenue for the company

  • with very, very little resources.

  • Now that' a lame horse, right?

  • I gave a good jockey a lame horse.

  • See how far he could go, right?

  • And afterwards I say okay, this is pretty good.

  • Let me give you some more resources,

  • let me give you some more capital,

  • let me give you more support.

  • Then I bring on different people,

  • some of the smartest people when it comes to Instagram

  • to help us with our account, to help us with our strategy.

  • I gave him a lot of that kind of support,

  • plus money, plus giving him money to do shout outs

  • and collaboration with other Instagrammers,

  • And from there we grew thousands and tens of thousands,

  • and soon a million followers on Instagram.

  • That's what I do.

  • See when you give someone a lame horse,

  • a good jockey, they can make it work.

  • They will find a way because it's never a lack of resources,

  • it's always a lack of resourcefulness.

  • Then when you give them a winning horse, a good horse,

  • the jockey will take it and then win championships for you.

Company grows, as your brand grows,
