The lord may live right royally,

主は非常に高貴に生きるかもしれません。

The soldier ride in pomp and pride,

The sailor roam over ocean wide;

But this or that, whatever befall,

しかし、あれやこれやで、何が起こるかわかりません。

The farmer he must feed them all.

農夫は皆を養わなければなりません。

The writer thinks, the poet sings,

作家は考え、詩人は歌います。

The craftsmen fashion wondrous things,

職人は不思議なものを作ります。

The doctor heals, the lawyer pleads,

医者が治療し、弁護士が嘆願します。

The miner follows the precious leads;

鉱夫は貴重な鉱脈を追います。

But this or that, whatever befall,

しかし、あれもこれも、何が起こるかわかりません。

The farmer he must feed them all.

農夫は皆を養わなければなりません。

The merchant he may buy and sell,

商人は売り買いをするかもしれません。

The teacher do his duty well,

教師はその任務をよく果たします。

But men may toil through busy days,

しかし，人は忙しい日々を労するかもしれません。

Or men may stroll through pleasant ways;

あるいは楽しい道を歩くかもしれません。

From king to beggar, whatever befall,

王から乞食まで、どんなことがあっても、

The farmer he must feed them all.

農夫は皆を養わなければなりません。

The farmer's trade is one of worth,

農民の商売は価値があります。

He's partner with the sky and earth,

空と大地の仲間です。

He's partner with the sun and rain,

太陽と雨の仲間です。

And no man loses for his gain;

彼らの利益は何も犠牲に頼っていません。

And men may rise, or men may fall,

そして，人は栄えることもあれば，没落することもあります。

But the farmer he must feed them all.

しかし、農夫は皆を養わねばなりません。

God bless the man who sows the wheat,

麦を蒔く者に神のご加護を。

Who finds us milk and fruit and meat,

乳と果実と肉を見いだす者に。

May his purse be heavy, his heart be light,

彼の財布が重く、彼の心が軽くなりますように。

His cattle and corn and all go right ;

家畜もトウモロコシもすべて、うまくいきますように。

God bless the seeds his hands let fall,

守られますように、彼が手でまく種子。

For the farmer he must feed us all.
