My name is Kim Nam-joon, also known as RM,

the leader of the group BTS.

It is an incredible honor to be invited to an occasion with such significance for today's young generation.

Last November, BTS launched the Love Myself campaign with UNICEF,

昨年の 11 月、BTS はユニセフと協力して "Love Myself（自分を愛する）" のキャンペーンを開始しました

building on our belief that true love

それは真の愛は

first begins with loving myself.

自分を愛することから始まる、という私たちの信念に基づいています

We've been partnering with UNICEF's End Violence program

私たちはユニセフの "End Violence（暴力廃止）" プログラムと協力し、

to protect children and young people all over the world from violence.

世界中の子供や若い人々を暴力から守っています

And our fans have become a major part of this campaign

私たちのファンもこのキャンペーンにおいて

with their action and with their enthusiasm.

We truly have the best fans in the world.

And I'd like to begin by talking about myself.

少し私自身のことから話したいと思います

I was born in Ilsan, a city near Seoul, South Korea.

私は韓国のソウルから近い、イルサンで生まれました

It is a really beautiful place with a lake, hills,

and even an annual flower festival.

I spent a very happy childhood there,

and I was just an ordinary boy.

I used to look up at the night sky and wonder,

and I used to dream the dreams of a boy.

I used to imagine that I was a superhero

私は世界を救うスーパーヒーロー

who could save the world.

In an intro to one of our early albums,

私たちの早期のアルバムのイントロで

there's a line that says,

"My heart stopped when I was maybe nine or ten."

「僕の心は 9 歳か 10 歳の時に止まった」

Looking back, I think that's when I began to worry

今振り返ると、私はまさにその時から

about what other people thought of me

and started seeing myself through their eyes.

I stopped looking up at the night skies, the stars.

夜空、またその星を見なくなりました

I stopped daydreaming.

Instead, I just tried to jam myself

into the molds that other people made.

Soon, I began to shut out my own voice

and started to listen to the voices of others.

No one called out my name, and neither did I.

My heart stopped, and my eyes closed shut.

So, like this, I, we, all lost our names.

こうして、私、私たちは自分の名前を失ったのです

We became like ghosts.

私たちはゴーストになったのです

But I had one sensory, and that was music.

しかし、私には唯一の感覚がありました、それは音楽です

There was a small voice inside of me that said,

私の中で小さな声がこう言うのです

"Wake up, man, and listen to yourself."

「起きろ、自分に正直になるんだ」

But it took me a long time to hear music calling my real name.

Even after making the decision to join BTS,

BTS に加わる決断を下した後も

there were a lot of hurdles.

Some people might not believe,

but most people thought we were hopeless.

And sometimes I just wanted to quit.

時にはやめたいと思うこともありました

But I think I was very lucky that I didn't give it all up.

And I'm sure that I, and we, will keep stumbling

and falling like this.

BTS has become artists

BTS は

performing in those huge stadiums

and selling millions of albums right now,

but I am still an ordinary 24-year-old guy.

私は普通の 24 歳の男です

If there's anything that I achieved, it was only possible

that I have my other BTS members right by my side

私のそばで支えてくれる BTS のメンバーたちと、

and because of the love and support that our ARMY fans all over the world make for us.

私たちの世界中の ARMY ファンのサポートがあったからこそ、実現できたのです

And maybe I made a mistake yesterday,

私は昨日何か過ちを犯したかもしれません

but yesterday's me is still me.

でも、昨日の私も今日の私も同じ人です

Today, I am who I am with all of my faults and my mistakes.

今日、私は自分の欠点や過去の過ち全て受け入れ、自分に正直でいます

Tomorrow, I might be a tiny bit wiser, and that'll be me, too.

明日は、今日より少しだけ賢くなっているかもしれませんが、やはり今日の私と同じ私です

These faults and mistakes are what I am,

これらの欠点や過ちがあるからこそ、今の私があるのであり、

making up the brightest stars in the constellation of my life.

私の人生という、星座の輝かしい星たちであるのです。

I have come to love myself for who I am, for who I was,

私は今の自分、過去の自分、

and for who I hope to become.

そして将来の理想の自分を、ありのままに愛するようになりました

I'd like to say one last thing.

そして、最後にもう一つ

After releasing our "Love Yourself" albums

"Love Yourself" のアルバムをリリースし、

and launching the "Love Myself" campaign,

"Love Myself" キャンペーンを宣言してから、

we started to hear remarkable stories from our fans all over the world,

世界中のファンから素晴らしい声が寄せられるようになりました

how our message helped them overcome their hardships in life

私たちのメッセージのおかげで、彼らが人生の苦難を克服し、

and start loving themselves.

自分を愛するようになった、と

Those stories constantly remind us of our responsibility.

So, let's take all one more step.

We have learned to love ourselves,

Like most people, I've made many and plenty mistakes in my life.

皆さんと同様、私は人生で多くの過ちを犯してきました

I have many faults, and I have many more fears,

私には多くの欠点があり、恐れるものもたくさんあります

but I'm going to embrace myself as hard as I can,
