  • Here I am at Niupu Village

  • where many of these traditional houses are located.

  • Unfortunately, these traditional U-shaped houses,

  • as you can see here,

  • have been emptied, abandoned or destroyed over time.

  • Because they are just so old that no one lives in them anymore.

  • But thankfully, this one behind me still stands erectly

  • and has been standing here for over a hundred years.

  • Let's go inside!

  • Right now I'm at the Chen family traditional house with Mr. Chen.

  • Lonci is very popular for its bamboo

  • so the locals here have had a long history of working with bamboos

  • and designing with bamboos.

  • So today Mr. Chen is going to teach me

  • how to make these cute little pumpkin ornaments from bamboos.

  • How long have you been working with bamboo?

  • I started making straw hats a long time ago.

  • As to these ornaments, maybe five to six years ago.

  • So cute.

  • I've just created this little pumpkin!

  • Actually I think it looks more like a cabbage.

  • And it was really amazing to see Mr. Chen

  • making such detail steps along the way

  • and guiding me to finish this!

  • All these finished products,

  • if they're pretty enough, I would sell them.

  • Sometimes I give them out as presents.

  • Long ago, these bamboo instruments

  • were used as a tool for catching milkfish

  • This side goes on top.

  • So thanks to Mr. Chen,

  • I've finally completed my little pumpkin ornament.

  • Now for the second challenge, we're going to make straw hats.

  • But actually only Mr. Chen is going to make it

  • because I will totally sabotage his artwork.

  • This is the finished art piece and it's really amazing!

  • This string needs to go in, one on top and one on the bottom.

  • What time do you usually eat at?

  • It depends,

  • sometimes earlier, sometimes later.

  • What are you going to eat later then?

  • What are you going to eat later then?

  • Here in Lonci District

  • not only am I amazed by the mountains and beautiful scenery,

  • there's also a deeply rooted bamboo culture

  • that exists in everyone's lifestyle here.

  • I think it's hard to imagine that

  • people here still use the knowledges of bamboo

  • that are passed on by ancestors and generations ago.

  • Even till today

  • they really do use their intelligence to the fullest potential

  • and that is something hard for me,

  • as a girl from the city, to imagine.

  • But it's truly amazing and I'm grateful

  • that I get to see this whole process

  • and witness the evolution of this amazing village today.

  • And I would definitely recommend you to come here if you have time

  • to witness the nature and the culture of bamboos here in Lonci District.

  • which we have good relationship with

  • are around Shangbazhuang(now as Shanhua District)

  • and Xiajiuzhuang(now as Anding District) in the past.

  • So far,

  • there are about 50 temples participating in the inspection tours.

  • The inspection tours span about 5 kilometers.

  • According to the customs

  • the village which the mast of King Boat

  • falls towards will have good harvests.

  • Hi, every one.
