- Hey everyone, it's your girl Jenn, welcome back.
Today I have a brand new episode of Favorites,
like I do every single month,
and before I get started I just wanted to,
make note of my hoarse voice,
I am on the tail end of a cold so I'm in like,
the sniffles, raspy voice stage, my mind's a little spacey,
but I'm not too mad about the voice, this like,
raspy voice can stay a little bit longer.
But regardless, I've got a ton of fun things
I want to share with you.
We've got some books, we've got beauty, fashion,
so let's just get started.
Alright, so first up, I want to talk about some
falsies, I love me a good false lash
because I barely have any natural lashes,
so I'm addicted to false lashes and I'm always on the quest
to find some really, really bomb ones.
I've been loving to use these ones by The Crème Shop.
These have been my favorite today
because they remind me of the Ardell Whispie,
but they're just a little bit more fluffier,
they feel lighter and sometimes with the Ardell Whispies,
as much as I love them, they come off a little bit thick.
But these are very natural, they come in a wide range
of styles and my favorites are the whispie and the #DW.
That's the one that I'm wearing on my eyes right now.
But they just really open up the eyes,
I feel like they are the perfect topper
for any eyeshadow look.
Next up I want to chat about shoes.
I have been head over heels over the transparent shoe trend.
I've been obsessed, I think I have around
three or four transparent shoes now.
But these clear heels by Schutz
have been my absolute favorite,
I think they really elevate a look.
There's something about having your foot in something clear
that makes it feel really sleek, chic and kind of slinky.
They really go with absolutely everything
because they are clear.
I know they look a little bit intimidating
just by the appearance, but I swear these
are the most comfortable heels that I have at the moment.
They are just like my go-to when I know I'm going to be
on my feet for hours and hours at a time.
If you're just, you know, wanting to play out
the transparent heel trend,
these heels are the ones for you.
So I want to talk about another make-up product,
I have been loving to use
Bobbi Brown's sheer finish press powder.
I am in the shade soft sand, and as you can see,
this is very much well loved, I have hit pan already,
and I think it's just because I am taking a little break
from Laura Mercier's translucent powder.
I love it, but it's just very messy,
no matter how careful I try,
there's just dust in my whole makeup station.
So I've been exploring more press powders,
especially because I just want to see
what's out in the market.
Also now that it is super hot, and I've been traveling
to a lot of hot countries,
I'm trying to minimize what I put on my face,
and so I've been really working on just doing concealer
on the eyes, the nose, and then just setting everything
with this press powder.
This does a really great job just mattifying everything,
and it adds a little bit of coverage which is great.
So now I'm going to talk about
some books that I read this month.
I actually read three, but only two of them
made it on my favorites.
I always get the question,
like how are you able to read so much?
And honestly, it really depends on how much I travel.
It's because I love to read on the plane,
it really takes me away from,
you know just being up in the sky with recycled air.
The first one I have is The Sun Does Shine
by Anthony Ray Hinton.
I first heard about his story when I was listening
to Oprah's podcast which is called Super Soul Conversations.
I highly recommend that podcast to you
if you don't listen to it, I mean,
it will transform your life.
I love getting ready to it, but, as you know
I was doing my routine of just putting my make-up on,
I was listening to a story, and I could just not believe
what happened to him.
So, Anthony Ray Hinton was convicted of a crime
that he did not commit, and he was sentenced to death row,
and he was in death row for 30 years
because he was fighting for his innocence,
and despite all the tragedies that has happened to him,
he still remains optimistic and hopeful
and I found that really inspiring.
It really just changed my mind about the death penalty,
and I highly recommend that people read this
because in the book I learned that one out of 10 people
are convicted wrongly and sentenced to death row,
and that is not okay.
I also want to recommend the documentary The 13th,
this is something that I saw a year and a half ago,
I think, when it first came out,
and it just talks about how unjust
the criminal justice system is,
and how many black lives are unfairly incarcerated,
and the 13th Amendment is almost like the new,
evolved form of slavery,
and I just find it so heartbreaking,
and I know that it's something that I've never talked about
on my channel before, and I know some people will say,
you know, fashion YouTubers should only talk about fashion,
but I think I've just gotten to a point where
I'm no longer afraid of what people
have to say to me anymore, I'm in a better head space,
and I may not have been as vocal as I could have been
in the past but I am wanting to change that about myself
and this channel.
I want to be able to talk about my views,
and if you do not agree with me, that's totally fine,
but I just wanted this to be a space where I can share
with you some things, and enlightenments that I've learned.
So my next book favorite is pretty random,
it was recommended to me by my Kindle,
it's called Friend Request by Laura Marshall.
And this is just like a really fun fiction, thriller book.
It's about a girl who is, you know just browsing Facebook
and suddenly she gets a friend request from
her dead high school friend.
And so it's just kind of this huge mystery,
like is she dead, did she actually die,
who is behind this account, and so it flashes back
from high school to the present day,
and it really just talks about how horrible bullying is,
and the repercussions bullying can have,
and even for me, like I was bullied in high school,
and I feel like I still kinda carry
that weight with me today.
And so, it just, I don't know, it shows you
just what can happen if you really,
really bully someone super hard.
So my last favorite is something that one of you guys
recommended to me, and I want to thank you so much,
for this, because, it is a language learning app.
It's called Drops and it is been a really great way
for me to re-learn Korean.
I expressed to you guys in my growing up Korean-American
video that I was looking for a Korean tutor.
Like, I know I repeated this, but my Korean's okay.
I speak like an eight year old,
maybe like a seven or six year old at this point,
but basically I need to get a little less rusty,
and so I had a lot of applicants,
but just timing and distance was an issue,
and so when he told me about Drops
it kind of just blew my mind.
Because with this app, I'm able to sharpen my Korean skills,
which is really fun, on my own time.
You can actually learn like a wide variety of languages,
but Korean is on there, and it's really cool,
because everything is broken down by categories,
and you can choose whether you're a beginner,
or an intermediate, I chose that one,
and everything is so cute, the user interface is awesome.
Every new word comes in a new drop,
and you play all these really fun interactive games
to help you remember.
I have been using like a pen and paper to write down
the words that I'm learning again because that helps.
For me, writing it down helps me really lock it in my mind.
So yeah, if you guys are interested in learning
any type of language, I highly recommend Drops.
Alright guys that's the end of my favorites,
I wanted to thank all my lovely transcribers for
translating my videos in all different types of languages,
thank you from the bottom of my heart,
I really appreciate you guys just volunteering your time,
and I wanted to, you know, appreciate you,
and so please know that I, that you guys mean a lot to me,
and I wanted to thank you guys for watching.
My wedding is coming up,
and I've had a lot of time to...to reflect,
and I think it's like that blood moon, that full blood moon,
but I've been feeling very introspective these days,
and I've been reading all your guys's comments,
the great ones, the constructive ones and the mean ones,
and I am taking everything to heart.
I think that the issue with some of y'all is that
you feel that my content doesn't feel as,
you know, chill and laid back,
and I think you guys are right,
I think I was focusing a lot on having everything polished,
and professional, because I like that way that looks too,
but I need to be able to have a balance,
and so I have different videos...
in the making, and some of them are very personal,
but I wanted to let you guys know that it's going
to take me some time to finish them up,
because I've never filmed videos like this
and me pouring out, just like, my soul into a video,
it does take a lot longer than I would with,
you know, like a favorites video, or a get ready with me.
Those are, you know I can smash those out in like a week.
But these ones are really digging deep,
and I hope you guys...
just stay patient with me.
Just know that I am always, always thinking about you guys
and what you guys would like to see,
and...
there are more...
like deeper videos coming in the future
and I wanted to thank you guys so much for staying
until the end to listen to me,
and I will see you guys in the next one.
Bye!
Muah.
