It certainly stood up there

本数は少ないものの、

with the small amount of anime short film

良作の割合は大きいショートアニメの中でも

that have impacted me.

この作品は群を抜いて目立っている。

So before I go any further in this video

the story and over all message from SHELTER

SHELTERのストーリーと全体的なメッセージは

is actually pretty simple to understand,

実はかなり簡単に理解できるような物なんだ。

SHELTER follows the story of a young girl

Everything seems fine and dandy

全世界を指先一つで制御出来るとしたら

I probably spend all day lounging around my bed too.

恐らく僕も1日中ベッドでゴロゴロ自堕落な生活を送るだろう。

But everything is turn on its head

だがストーリーは突如急展開を迎える。

when touching a lone swing trigger her PTSD

ブランコを触った事が彼女のPTSDを呼び起こし、

causing her Vietnam flashback to resurface.

彼女はベトナム戦争時のトラウマのフラッシュバックを起こしてしまう。

And would you know it,

it turns out Jupiter got pissed at the earth one day

要はある日、木星が地球にブチギレて

and decided to crash land

地球に衝突する事に決めたんだが、

but who cares about that.

まあそんな事誰も気にしないよね！

Look at this cute little girl with her cute little smile.

それよりこのカワイイ女の子のカワイイ笑顔を見てくれよぉ〜

Yes, to save this cuteness from dying

そう、でこのカワイコちゃんを世界と共に

along with the rest of the world,

死なせない為に

her loving father build a spaceship

彼女の父親は仮想世界を搭載した

with this virtual world in it

宇宙船を建造して

which he send her off in

彼女をその中へ送り込んだ

unknowingly trigger a reboot for supergirl.

それが彼女をスーパーガールへと転生させる事など露知らずに。

And that's pretty much it!

She's just floating through space

彼女はただただ宇宙を彷徨っている...

Despite all this

こんなストーリーにも関わらず、

the short even managed to end on a positive message,

このショートアニメは終わりにポジティヴなメッセージを残す事に成功している。

showing us that our memories

それはつまり、僕達の持つ記憶というのは、

even our most painful one

それがどれだけ辛いものであっても、

can be use as a steping stone

人として強くなり、未来へ進む為の

to move forward in the future as a stronger person.

足掛かりになるという物だ。

Which is nice you know

It's a very simple concept

外界からの完全断絶によって引き起こされる実存主義について踏み込んでいる。

but that's the beauty of a short like this

でもそれがショートアニメの美しい所なんだ。

it shines from its simplicity

シンプルだからこそ輝ける。

as not a single frame was wasted

アイデアを僕達に伝える過程で

in presenting this idea to us

フレームが一つたりとも無駄に使われる事が無いし、

result in a master of visual story telling.

それによって極上の視覚的な物語が出来上がる。

Eventhough the short have a bit of dialogue in it

多少のセリフはあるけど、

we certainly don't need it at all

はっきり言って何が起きているのかを理解するには

to understand what's going on.

それらも全く必要無い。

And the simplicity does not detract from the impact of it,

そして簡潔さがインパクトを弱める事なく、

in fact it enhances it.

むしろ強調している。

And it's the simple core message

そのシンプルで核心的なメッセージこそが

that really sells it.

人々の心を掴むんだ。

So to all these petition calling for a full series

だからこのアニメを1シーズン分丸ごと

of this to be made

作れと主張する署名は

is just...

はっきり言って…

It would ruin the entire charm of this short,

そんな事をしたらこのショートフィルムが持っている魅力を台無しにするし、

something like this saids everything it needs to

こういう作品はあまりダラダラと引き延ばす事無く、

and doesn't overstay its welcome

伝えたい事を全て言い切ってくれる。

and that's what makes it special.

それこそが特別な事なんだ。

What's great about SHELTER is you can sense

SHELTERの素晴らしい所は視聴者自身が、

the love and passion that went into crafting it,

製作者が作品に注いだ愛と情熱を感じ取れる事だ。

because the animation looks absolutely beautiful

It's entirely refreshing to see an anime

that contain the love for the entire medium

部外者からの愛が

from an outsider who for all intents and purposes

至る所に込められているアニメというのも

has nothing to do with anime.

極めて斬新で面白い。

Which is why I think small project like this

This project and others like it embodies

backing from some anime studios and companies

What we see where is someone's love letter to anime

and it doesn't matter where he came from,

trying to show his love for a medium
