Here’re some are very basic information so that if you have any ideas what the TOEFL is all about. So Ricado has asked us what is the TOEFL. Well, and what is ibt. Let’s start with the beginning. TOEFL is actually acronym, an acronym means that each letters of TOEFL. T-O-E-F_F stands for a word. In these cases these stand for test of english as foreign language. It’s also called the TOEFL ibt. That also stand for something. That stands for “internet based test” The TOEFL ibt is conducted completely and entirely over in the internet We don’t actually need to meet the examinor at all. It just uses an computer throughout the four hours or so of public exam. So what is TOEFL. The TOEFL is the english for efficency exam, which is used to test your knowledge of reading, writing, listening and understanding english in an academic contest, alright. So that’s why a lot of the language use in the TOEFL. It’s in fact, academic or campus space language. We re’ talking about this in another moment. Kumico from Japan asked who take the TOEFL. Well, the TOEFL is often taken by the people who are non native speakers of english. And why do they take that. They take it to get the mission of the university or college. Sometimes they take for profesional reasons to get certification in their profession in certain countries. And some students take it simply to demonstrate their fluency in English for a potential employer. Ok Kumico, I hope that I answered your question. What kind of english is tested on the TOEFL. As I mentioned, TOEFL is really testing in your academic english :the formal at the informal english. So formal means academic lectures and the informal permanent means conversations on campus between students and students, between students and professors or students and librarian. These are the types of listening and reading passages that you find there. Procastrer from Indian asked us how long is TOEFL. Well the TOEFL is the long exam.It actually takes about three and a half to four hours . It varies for a certain reasons I explain that in the moment. The TOEFL has four sections : reading, writing, listening and speaking. It starts with the reading section. The minimum time of the reading section is sixty minutes. In that area we’ll have three sections. It’s possible that the reading section could be a little bit longer. It could actually be about five sections in which case each time, they past a section, they give you another twenty minutes. So it can be anything from about sixty or one hundered minutes for the reading section. Whether you have three sections or five sections, you’re always tested on only. You’re only. Sorry. You’re always scored or only three sections, but we don’t know which ‘s three sections. The reason sometimes you give it extra sections because ETS the company that makes the TOEFL exam want to try out an experiment with the new questions and you ‘re as it habits on whom they try out these question. So you may have to do a longer reading section. You may at the minimum which is three sections in one hour along. In any case you don’t know which sections are going to be scored. So you’re gonna try your best into very well throughout the exam, ok. that is sixty minutes reading section, that for by sixty minutes or one hundred minites again of the listening section . Then you have a ten minutes break. After the tape, after the break is the speaking section. It lasts about twenty minites all so.you have six different tasks and last of all you have yours TOEFL writing section. TOEFL writing, today consists of two sections. In the first part, it’s integrated task, you’r gived something treat which have few paragraphs along then you have something to listen to, last you to write something which integrate the information that you read and that you heard. You have to start sunmarising or contract it and so on. And last the form you have to an essay In this essay, you have half of hour to write and it should be about 300 to 350 words which is about five paragraphs Now most important of all almost all my students ask how can I get high score on TOEFL ibt. Well. There’re really four different ways The first way is to have knowledge of the test itsefl , to understand the structure of the test, to know what to expect in the section and so on. The second part is to have the skills. It’s necessary to do well that primary skills : reading, writing, listening and speaking.
