This game was pretty much the first of its kind. Now what this game introduced was the gameplay where you play as a member of one faction and you try to reduce the number of another faction. Sounds simple, right? Well.... this game introduced various ways to do this. This is really one of the first games where you can get into a plane, fly it around, crash it, get into a tank, drive it around, wreak some havoc, and then get blown up by grenades. Or you can just stay on foot and get shot. Really, this game has infinite numbers of options on how to fight the enemy. Now the main objective of the game is to capture control points. This makes the enemy's "tickets" go down, and once their number of tickets reaches zero, the game is over. Now this game really allowed for some very epic battles. You could have a huge number of enemy players in the game at one time. Now, unfortunately I'm just playing with bots for the sake of this review. In this game, you can play as either the Allies or the Axis, and both have pretty much the same weapons and both have the exact same classes. You can play as the Assault, which is armed with the... assault rifle, wait, those didn't exist in World War II... Yes, this game is not exactly historically accurate. You see, the weapon the Assault is armed with in the Allies faction is the BAR. The BAR is not an assault rifle. It is a light machine gun and was used as such during World War I and II and still even in the Vietnam War. Here, it's used like a generic assault rifle, for some reason. Then, on the Axis side, Germans are issued the STG-44. That was an assault rifle, but it's used in battles where it quite simply didn't exist. Also, why does the Spitfire look like this? This is a much later version of the Spitfire and is seen on the Battle of Britain map. No wonder the Spitfire was so useful! The British literally time traveled into the future and got the most improved model! Really, though, this game is fun. There's just so much you can do and the gameplay is just so natural. Basically, anything can happen at anytime. You can do anything you want at any time. You wanna get out of the turret and try to have a nice last stand before the Germans or Allies overwhelm you? You can do that! In the end, it still stands up in the face of modern Battlefield games. In fact, I'd say it stands out better than one would expect, especially since the gameplay in this is slightly more difficult, I'd have to say, than in later games. And so, this is Jon, signing off.
