Many also believe that basic income could improve health, education and employment outcomes for people and communities. Ontario has a broad range of income and social supports, but even with those in place, we have many residents living in poverty. We need new ways to support Ontarians. A basic income is generally seen as an unconditional payment from the government to ensure a minimum income level. What are we consulting about? The design, implementation and evaluation of a pilot: Who should be eligible? How should pilot locations be selected? How much should a basic income be? What does success look like? How should the pilot be run? What is the goal of the consultations? Your input will help inform the design of a basic income pilot. We want to provide simpler and more effective income support and improve outcomes for Ontarians living on low incomes or in poverty.
