Day number 6

6日目

So we're just leaving our apartment now

だから今はアパートを出たところだ

and going to go explore Madrid.

とマドリッドを散策しに行く。

We're gonna go explore the...

探検に行こう...

...east side of Plaza Mayor,

...マヨール広場の東側

since yesterday we kinda wandered around the old town.

昨日から旧市街をうろうろしていた。

We're planning to have lunch at one of the markets

どこかの市場で昼食をとる予定です。

and we're going to, hopefully, end the night with some churros!

チュロスを食べて夜を締めくくりましょう！

J: It's going to be really hot! It's going to be 35 degrees!

J: 本当に暑くなるよ。35度になりそうだよ。

A: But at what time will it be that? J: 5pm A: That's crazy! W: YEH!

A：でも何時になるんですか？J: 午後5時 A: それはおかしい!W: YEH!

Cos' the sun! it sets at like 10pm or something here...

日が沈むのは夜の10時くらいだから...

A: So we're just at the local supermarket...

A：だから、近所のスーパーにいるだけで......。

...and look, they have a great selection of little pastries here. So, if you want a little snack...

...見てください、ここには小さなお菓子がたくさんあります。だから、ちょっとしたおやつが欲しいなら...

...or if you have one near you and you don't have time to get breakfast...

...または、近くに一軒あって、朝食を取る時間がないなら...

So, I'm just going to gra a croissant and I'm just going to grab a "Jah-Mon"

ということで、クロワッサンを一口食べて「じゃーもん」と

W: Jamon! A: Jamon *giggles*

W: ジャモン!A: ジャモン！

W: Look how funny it is, you just sweep your bread to the side. A: Here we go!

W: ほら、パンを横にスイープしただけなのに、なんて面白いんだ。A: これだよ。

Winner!

Grab a bag down the bottom...

下の袋をつかむ - 下の袋をつかむ。

...and then that way,

...そして、あっちだ。

it's so hygienic, because noone else will ever touch your food.

衛生的ですね、誰も食べ物には触れませんから。

And I'm gonna get one of these...

そして、私はこのうちの一つを...

...it looks scrumptious!

This one has a bit of ham and cheese.

こちらはハムとチーズが少し入っています。

There were so many delicious bakeries near our apartment in Madrid

マドリッドのアパートの近くには美味しいパン屋さんがたくさんありました。

And because it was Summer,

しかも夏だったから。

we didn't feel like eating any hot food for breakfast,

朝食に温かいものを食べる気がしませんでした。

so these bakeries, were the perfect place to go.

これらのパン屋さんは、行くのに最適な場所でした。

Yesterday we walked past this bakery

昨日はこのパン屋さんの前を通りました

on the way home, and we decided, yep, we're gonna have this for breakfast.

帰り道にこれを朝食に食べようと決めたんだ

What I got, was um...

私が手に入れたのは...

...chocolate

チョコ

a chocolate flute?

チョコレートの笛？

and then I also got an empanadilla...

そして、エンパナディージャもいただきました...。

...a meat one.

...肉のやつ

and what did you get Jenny?

ジェニーはどうしたの？

J: I got the empanadilla as well, but I got the tuna and onion

J：私もエンパナディージャをいただきましたが、ツナとオニオンをいただきました。

J: and this sweet pastry as well.

J：それに、この甘いお菓子も。

W: Ooo...an apple...apple J: Some apple glazed...coconut...kind of thing.

W: おー...りんご...りんご J: なんかりんごのグレージュ...ココナッツ...みたいなやつ。

W: and what did you get Anton?

W：で、アントンは何を手に入れたんですか？

A: Tuna and onion...and a croissant for later.

A：ツナと玉ねぎ...あとはクロワッサン。

and I'm currently eating ham...

と、現在ハムを食べているのですが...。

After breakfast

朝食後

we set out exploring the streets of Madrid.

私たちはマドリッドの街を探索することにしました。

We eventually wandered into El Retiro Park,

やがてエルレティーロ公園に迷い込んだ。

which is a huge park in the middle of the city.

にある巨大な公園です。

Inside the park, you will find a large artificial pond,

園内には大きな人工池があります。

can you count how many fishes are inside?

中に何匹いるか数えられますか？

For lunch, we decided to go to the local market

昼食は、地元の市場に行くことにしました。

and see what we could find.

何が見つかるか見てみましょう

Look at all the jamon!

ジャモンを見てください！

Today, we wandered into Mercado Anton Martin

今日はメルカド・アントン・マルティンに迷い込んだ。

and look at all the goodies we came home with.

そして、家に帰ってきた時のグッズを見てください。

We got some local delicacies. A: Real local food!

地元のご当地グルメをいただきましたA：本当のローカルフード！？

So we...well Anton...made friends with a lot of the locals

それで...アントンは...地元の人たちと友達になった

and then they recommended a lot of food for us.

と言って、たくさんの料理を勧めてくれました。

So, we got some chicken

チキンを買ってきました

and it was stewed in some onion and garlic

玉ねぎとニンニクで煮込んでありました

and it was locally made by a lady in a small store

小さなお店のおばちゃんが作ってくれました

and the locals were all saying it was really good.

と、地元の人たちは皆、本当に良かったと言っていました。

So we got a little to try.

ということで、少し試してみました。

Apart from the chicken, we also got this black ink squid.

チキンの他に、この墨イカもいただきました。

W: and then we got... A: Beef Ragu...

W：で、そのあとはＡ：牛らぐ...。

it's basically a stew that they have here which is a local delicacy as well.

基本的にはここの郷土料理でもあるシチューです。

And these cherries were so cheap! Jenny, how much were they?

このチェリーはとても安かった！ ジェニー いくらだったの？

W: For this whole bowl? J: A dollar something...

W：このボウル全部で？J：1ドルなんとか...。

W: One Euro something...

W：1ユーロなんとか...。

A: Which for us is ridiculously cheap

A: それは私たちにとっては非常に安いです。

back home in Australia

オーストラリア帰国

they're pretty expensive.

結構高いんですよね。

And then, of course,

そして、もちろん

we are in Madrid, so we had to get jamon.

マドリッドにいるので、ジャモンが必要でした。

A: But we got some special Jamon.

A: でも、特別なジャモンを手に入れたんだ。

W: Yeh, we got it from the market,

W：ええ、市場で買ってきたんですよ。

there was a stall called "Ismael".

イスマエル」という屋台がありました。

So, we got two varieties of the black fur pig.

ということで、黒い毛皮の豚を2種類ゲットしました。

A: So we have two black pigs here,

A: ということで、ここには黒豚が2匹います。

and they're from different areas

そして彼らは異なる地域から来ている

and they're both fed acorns.

と、二人ともどんぐりを食べさせています。

These are the highest quality ones that the store has.

お店が持っている最高品質のものです。

So, it's actually about $129 euros!

ということで、実際には129ユーロくらいですね!

and then this is a white pig

と思ったらこれは白豚

and here...

そしてここで...

we got some olives as well, which was recommended by the same guy that was helping us out with the meat.

オリーブもいただきましたが、お肉を手伝ってくれていた人に勧められました。

A: and then we actually met another guy there.

A: そして、実際にそこで別の男性に会ったんです。

W: Yeh, that was the guy that recommended these stuff to us.

W：ええ、これを勧めてくれたのはその人なんですよ。

A: and so, olives here...these are some stuffed olives.

A: それで、ここにあるオリーブ...これはオリーブの詰め物です。

This is with sardines

これはイワシと一緒に

and then inside there, you can see a mussel.

で、その中にムツゴロウが入っています。

So there's olives stuffed with mussel and a bit of capsicum.

オリーブの詰め物にムール貝と少しのカプチーナが入っているんですね。

Then we got...there's cheese inside... they're little bell peppers.

中にはチーズが入っていて、小さなピーマンです。

and then this one's an anchovy

そしてこちらはアンチョビ

so you can see the anchovy is a lot darker than the sardine, and probably a lot saltier as well.

アンチョビはイワシよりも色が濃く、おそらく塩分が多いのがわかります。

and then at the meat place, they obviously also sell cheese.

そして、肉の店では明らかにチーズも売っている。

We got some different local cheeses,

いろいろなご当地チーズをいただきました。

Obviously the Camembert isn't, that's French.

カマンベールは明らかにフランス料理だ

A: This one's the normal cheese that's aged. W: Is that the fungus one?

Ａ：これは普通に熟成されたチーズだよ。W：これはカビの方ですか？

A: Yeh, that's the fungus one

A: はい、それは菌類の方です。

it's actually got fungus through it.

それは実際にそれを介してカビを持っています。

This one's a local one

これは地元のものだ

and we got three slices.

で、3切れが出てきました。

It's not as strong.

それほど強くはない。

This one you can have a lot of the time

これは、あなたが多くの時間を持つことができます

and have a decent amount of quantity, so we got a slice each

and this one...

is a really nice blue cheese

so you can see some of the blue there.

From the olive store we got this garlic

it's actually pickled,

it doesn't taste like garlic!

It's really odd.

It actually has a really nice light taste to it

それは実際にそれに本当に良いライトな味を持っています。

and then we have some olives here that have been stewed for a really long time

そして、ここには長い間煮込まれたオリーブがあります。

in some sort of tomato base, I think.

トマトベースの何かに入っていると思います。

Then we got some two other delicacies,

そして、他にも2つの珍味を手に入れることができました。

this is just a salad that they have

これは、彼らが持っているだけのサラダです。

W: Ensalada Russia...something like that...they were saying it's a Russian salad.

ｗ：エンサラダロシア...みたいなことを言っていました。

A: Yeh, they actually name it Russian salad

A: そうですね、ロシアのサラダという名前がついています。

and this is something you gotta have

これは持っていないといけないもの

cold tomato soup, the liquid one.

冷たいトマトスープ、液体のやつ。

After lunch, we had a bit of a siesta.

昼食後、少し昼寝をしました。

If you are visiting Spain during Summer,

夏の間にスペインを訪れる場合

you will quickly find, that a siesta is necessary, to escape the summer heat

夏の暑さをしのぐためには昼寝が必要であることがすぐにわかる

Afterwards, we met up with some friends for dinner.

その後、友人たちと合流して食事をしました。

It was so much fun, just hopping around different tapas bars

いろんなタパスバーを飛び回って、とても楽しかったです。

This place is famous for there churros

and the best thing, it's open 24 hours!

We stayed there and chatted until late,

そこに泊まり、遅くまでおしゃべりをしていました。

and at the strike of midnight,

と真夜中のストライキで。

it was officially my birthday.

正式には私の誕生日でした。

What a great way to end our trip in Madrid and Spain.

マドリッドとスペインでの旅を締めくくるには、なんという素晴らしい方法でしょう。
