We’re going to look at the different features, some benefits that it has over gas-powered chainsaws. We’re going to do some tests. It’s going to be a lot of fun. So let’s dive into the review right now. We’re going to take a look at DeWALT’s brand new 40V Max Brushless Chainsaw. This is the DCCS690H1. Cut open the box, and the first thing that pops out is the charger. So this charger is for the 6.0Ah battery that came with this unit. Here’s what the chainsaw looks like. Pretty much right out of the box, ready to use. The battery’s not inside of it because it would be crazy to package it that way. And the battery is at the bottom. So again this is the 6.0Ah. It came with one green light of charge. So I had to charge it up before I could test it out and take a look at how the chainsaw works. This chainsaw is very easy to work with. But the first thing you want to do is make sure the lock-off lever is engaged before you install the battery. Push the battery in. You’ll hear a click. That’s how you know the battery is engaged. Very simple. To pull the battery out, press on the button in front, the battery pops out. Very easy to do. So here’s what we’re going to do. We’re going to double-check that the guide bar and the chain are seated properly. Pull the battery out—you don’t want to lose your fingers. Then turn the large lever on the sprocket cover counter-clockwise until it pulls off the chainsaw. Very easy to do. Then check to make sure that the chain is seated on the sprocket and around the guide bar on the top and the bottom. The chain should be properly seated and have about 1/8” of tension. So you can pull back on the chain, it should pop back into the guide bar. Now in order to adjust that tension, there’s a little lever underneath where that sprocket cover was. You can turn that little lever counter-clockwise to loosen the chain tension or clockwise to tighten the chain even more. When you put that sprocket cover back on, just line up the hole in it with the bolt that’s holding the guide bar in place, and then turn the lever clockwise until you hear a click. Now a new chain does stretch, and DeWALT recommends that you check the tension of the chain during the first two hours of use. The oil reservoir is in the front left-hand side of the chainsaw. You can fill it up with oil, and then check to make sure that you have the right amount in it by looking at the little window. There is a chain brake on this chainsaw. You want to pull it forward then it’ll be in the set position. The theory is that if there’s kickback, your hand will hit the chain brake and stop the chain from moving. So we’re going to test this out and see if that is the case. To test the chain brake, you need to put the battery in first. Obviously, pull the chain brake towards you and then start the chainsaw… and it works. So the chain is locked. Nice safety feature. All right, we’re going to test this bad boy out. Now here is the deal. With the 6.0Ah battery, which is what we have, and it’s fully charged, we should be able to cut 100 slices out of a 6’ x 6’ piece of pressure-treated lumber. Now I don’t have a 6’ x 6’, but I do have some 2’ x 6’s, and I’ve stacked them together. So we’re going to test that out right now. By the way, did you know that Jason never used a chainsaw? I blame this misconception on Clark Griswold. “Hey, Griswold. Where do you think you’re going to put a tree that big? Bend over, and I’ll show you.” Safety first. Okay, guys. So about 112 cuts, the chainsaw crapped out. So but still, that’s the thing. They definitely made it to 100 cuts. And I’m using the 6.0Ah battery. That was a lot of cuts! Let me know if you need any shim. I have plenty. So I don’t have a ton of trees to cut down on my property. But I have a lot of brush that I don’t want to use the saws on. And a chainsaw would really come in handy for this. Or smaller trees like this one if they get diseases and needs to be cut down. Okay, so there you go. That is DeWALT’s brand new 40V Max Brushless Chainsaw. I was definitely impressed by the number of cuts I could get. And there are some true benefits over a gas-powered chainsaw, like: you don’t have to worry about the engine; number two, you don’t have a pull-start; and three, you just plug in the battery and go. There’s no real maintenance issue with this particular chainsaw. But I want to get your feelings on it down in the comments over here on YouTube or over on HomeRepairTutor.com. So the price point for the 6.0Ah chainsaw is $479. The 4.0Ah chainsaw is $379. I definitely want to open up the discussion about this particular product because it seems like everything is going to battery-operated. And there are some pros and some cons to that, especially when it comes to lawn maintenance products. So let me know what you think down in the comments. And remember, we come up with a new video every single Friday. So you can subscribe to our YouTube channel. We try to make these product reviews fun. And when we’re not doing product reviews, we’re doing DIY projects by building a walk-in shower, tiling, you name it. So Home Repair Tutor is a real great place to come if you’re a home owner and you want some great tips. Thanks for watching today’s video. I really appreciate it. Have a great day. I’ll see you next week. See these folks walking over here? They probably think I’m nuts. My wife doesn’t know I’m doing this. It’s Thanksgiving Day. I am tired of this tree. It’s heavier than it looked.
