Welcome to Learn to Speak English
Today we are going to look at how to greet people
There are lots of ways to greet people in English
Today we will learn about the most common ways we do this.
To help, we'll show you some examples.
How to greet a person you have not met before
You say, "Hi, my name is Mark, it's nice to meet you."
You reply, "Hi Mark, it's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Pete."
We also greet by ask people how they are.
We say, "Hello, how are you?"
We reply, "I'm fine, thank you, how are you?"
We often ask, "What do you do for a living?"
We reply, "I'm a teacher," or "I work in a computer store," for example.
When people speak quickly, ask them to repeat what they say.
Say, "I'm sorry, I didn't hear that, would you say it again?"
Or, "Would you mind saying that again? I didn't hear what you said."
