Let’s show you around some of our homes so you can see first-hand just how seriously we take our commitment to delivering the highest possible standards of living for all our residents. Our well-appointed care homes, their award winning designs, luxury interiors and landscaped gardens, support vibrant, caring communities that give our residents and their loved ones, comfort, security and peace of mind but we also understand that real quality of living can only come from the support and companionship of others. One of the most rewarding jobs I have ever worked in because it’s like you say when you have a mother, nan or grandmother, when they are home you want them to be treated well, you want them to have a really good quality of life. Thriving, caring communities, a place to call home, to make new friends, learn and share with others We understand that change can sometimes be a challenge for the elderly, and we work hard to settle all our residents into home life as quickly as possible. We also appreciate that friends and family are very much part of what it is to deliver the best in care, and we welcome the contributions of our families through our various committees. We’ve seen first-hand the role that web based communications can play in keeping residents and family connected, and we’ve always believed that daily and varied recreational activities can be as much therapeutic, as they are fun and engaging We paint, we do collage, we do needlecraft, we make basic jewellery, we go out, we have pub lunches we go out for tea and cakes to the local garden centres and parks, and obviously the beach is only 15 minutes away. We are also excited by the potential of the web to keep family and friends fully updated with the activities and progress within our homes, an area we are develoing as technology allows. This is our cinema room, this allows us to use, we can hook the projector up to a DVD player, Wii Consoles, X-box, Connect and also the internet. We also do Skype here, and that allows us to re-unite families, you’ve got the web cams so that they can see each other as they are talking, we had it where one lady got to see her granddaughters wedding which was nice. A varied programme of daily activities keeps all our residents fully active, and engaged with the world around them, and their own life stories. Some of them where saying that their grandfathers or fathers or their sons where miners, the gentleman there himself used to work in a mine. So it gets them remembering things and just keeps their brains active. We like to get out, and very much view our homes as being embedded within their local communities. We would like to present this cheque to you on behalf of Acacia Lodge, thank you very much indeed, on behalf of Guide Dogs for the Blind we very much appreciate the effort that has been made. Self-expression is important too. We encourage all our residents to dress their rooms with personal effects. Dinning brings us all together in a communal atmosphere that is so important to the social fabric of the home I like the curries, I love the soup, had some nice fish today a big variety of food and beautifully served in a lovely dinning room A choice of nutrionally balanced traditional meals are provided throughout the day and particular requirements, or preferences are always catered for. The staff are wonderful, they really look after us and I am diabetic and they help me with my food and that, it’s just great. Our chefs are always on hand, to delight us with freshly baked cakes and biscuits to complement our traditional fare. We use the local butchers in town, we have got a very good relationship with him, really great meat, fantastic, we always do a Sunday roast. Today’s menu we had Chicken with Tarragon, mushrooms and bacon, we had new potatoes roasted with Rosemary, and carrot ribbons with green beans and bacon. Our gardens provide the perfect backdrop to any summer evening; whether it’s taking afternoon tea or enjoying an evening aperiteef, before diner On special occasions, we’ll celebrate with you and make a fuss with family and friends, whether it’s an anniversary, a birthday or any other special event Was it your birthday yesterday? Yes and it was magnificent, everyone was absolutely fantastic, I couldn’t have been treated better anywhere. We’re always pleased to welcome guests, and our homes are always open to you. Why not come and visit, and see for yourself what Avery living entails, or perhaps visit our web site and view the videos we have there. As our network of homes continues to grow, you’re never too far from an Avery home. You couldn’t wish for a better place anywhere, it’s just like a 5 star hotel.
