FESTIVAL!!!

お祭りを見にね！

The Onbashira Matsuri is a traditional Japanese Festival that happens every 6 years

日本で6年に1度行われる御柱祭りだ

During that festival, 8 tree logs are carried down from the mountain down to the Suwa Shrine

諏訪神社に8つの大木が運ばれるんだ

and sometimes the logs have to be dropped down from the top of big hills

時に大木は坂の上から落とされる

Young men prove their bravery by riding the logs while it’s sliding down hills

若い男の人たちは大木の上に乗って坂を下ることで 度胸試しをするんだ

it is said to be the deadliest festival in Japan

日本で一番危険なお祭りって言われてるんだ

because every time, 2 or 3 people die, crushed by the 10 ton tree log that slides down the mountain

たまに坂から落とされた大木に当たって 人が死んだりするんだ

Yeah, that's not very cool

それは怖いよね

However being a very rare festival

このお祭りはすごく貴重なんだ

Since it happens every 6 years

6年に1回しかないからね

I wanted to check it out by myself

この目で見たいと思った

and headed to Chino Station very early in the morning

茅野駅に朝早くに着いた

when buying tickets for this festival we received

チケットを買ったら

this really cool Onbashira Festival Happi

こんなかっこいい御柱祭りの法被を受け取った

Sexy, right??

セクシーだろ？

I have to admit though seeing this huge log falling down was really really scary

大木が落ちるのを見るのは本当に怖かった

and you can feel the tension everywhere

人々の緊張感が伝わってきた

Especially when this group kinda fucked it up at the starting point

とくにこのグループがしょっぱなから 失敗したときはね

I hope everybody's OK though

みんな無事だといいけどね
