The Princess and the Frog

『カエルのおうじさま』

It’s Princess Petunia’s birthday.

今日はペチュニア姫のお誕生日です。

“What’s this?”

「これは、なにかしら？」

Princess Petunia asks.

ペチュニアひめがたずねました。

“It’s a present. Open it!”

「プレゼントだよ。あけてごらん！」

the king says.

おうさまが答えます。

“A gold ball!” she says.

「きんのまりね！」ペチュニアひめはいいました。

“Oh, thanks, Daddy!”

「ありがとう、おとうさま！」

By the well, she throws the ball.

ペチュニアひめは井戸のそばでまりを投げて遊んでいます。

It goes up, up, UP!

まりが上へ上へ行きます。

Then it goes down, down, DOWN!

それから下へ下へ落ちてきます。

SPLASH! It falls into the well!

ぼちゃん！まりが井戸におちてしまいました。

“Boo hoo hoo!”

「えーん、えーん！」

cries Princess Petunia.

ペチュニアひめは泣き出しました。

“Why do you cry?”

「なぜ泣いているのですか？」

“My gold ball is in the well!”

「わたしの金のまりが 井戸の中におちてしまったの。」

“Get my ball and I’ll give you this!”

「まりを取ってきてくれたら、これをあげるわ！」

she says.

ペチュニアひめが言いました。

“What is it?”

「それはなんですか？」

the little green frog says.

小さな緑色のカエルがたずねます。

“It’s a crown!”

「おうかんよ！」

“Oh, I don’t want that!”

「ああ、ぼく、そんな物はいりません！」

says the little green frog.

小さな緑色のカエルは言いました。

“I want to be your friend!”

「僕はあなたと友達になりたいのです！」

“OK. Please get my ball!”

「わかったわ。じゃあまりを取ってきてちょうだい！」

says Princess Petunia.

ペチュニアひめが言いました。

The little green frog gets the ball.

小さな緑色のカエルが まりをとってくれました。

“Here it is!”

「はい、どうぞ！」

She takes the ball and runs away.

ペチュニアひめはまりを受け取ると走って逃げてしまいました。

At dinner, there is a little knock on the door.

夕食のとき、 誰かが小さな音でドアをノックしています。

“What’s that sound?”

「なんの音だね？」

“It’s just an icky frog.”

「ネバネバのカエルがきたの。」

“An icky frog? Why is he here?”

「ネバネバのカエルだと？カエルがなぜここに？」

“I promised to be his friend,”

「友達になってあげるって約束したから。」

“Always keep your promise!”

「なにがあっても約束は守らなければならん！」

The little green frog comes into the castle.

小さな緑色のカエルがお城にはいってきます。

He eats with Princess Petunia.

そして、ペチュニアひめと食事をしました。

“Now I am tired! It’s bedtime!”

「もう疲れました！寝る時間です！」

“Ooh! You’re an icky frog!”

「まあ！あなたはネバネバしたカエルなのよ！」

“Sleep in the bathroom!”

「おふろばで寝てもらうわ！」

But the king says,

しかし王様はこう言いました。

“Always keep your promise!”

「なにがあっても約束は守らなければ！」

Princess Petunia puts the frog on her bed.

ペチュニアひめはカエルを自分のベッドにおろしました。

Suddenly, there is a handsome prince.

すると、突然かっこいい王子様があらわれたのです。

Princess Petunia is so surprised.

ペチュニアひめはびっくり。

“Oh, my! It’s a handsome prince!”

「まあ！すてきな王子様だこと！」

The handsome prince says,

かっこいいおうじさまはこう話しました。

“Oh, thank you!”

「おお、ありがとう！」

“A bad witch did some magic!”

「ぼくは悪い魔女に魔法をかけられてしまいました。」

“I became a frog!”

「それでわたしはカエルの姿にされてしまったのです！」

“But you treat me as a real friend!”

「しかしあなたは友達として接してくれました。」

“So there is no more bad magic!”

「だから悪い魔法はもうとけました！」

Princess Petunia and the handsome prince marry.

ペチュニアひめはかっこいい王子様と結婚しました。

They are very happy.

ふたりはとても幸せです。

And what is the prince’s favorite snack?
