This is the first time someone wins Nobel prize who is mainly a musician.

Bob Dylan is the first American to win the prize for literature since Toni Morrison in

1993.

Dylan is the 108th winner of the most prestigious literature prize in the world.

This Nobel Prize comes with a monetary prize of eight million Swedish Krona which is a

little more than Nine Hundred Thousand US dollar.

Dylan won a Pulitzer Prize in 2008 for his profound impact on popular music and American

culture, marked by lyrical compositions of extraordinary poetic power.

He has as been nominated for 13 awards and won 12 of them including 1 Oscar and 10 Grammys.

Dylan's early songs such as "Blowin' in the Wind" and "The Times They Are a-Changin'"

became anthems for the American civil rights and anti-war movements.

Dylan has published six books of drawings and paintings, and his work has been exhibited

in major art galleries.

Dylan has sold more than 100 million records, making him one of the best-selling artists

of all time.

In film and TV Bob Dylan is best known for Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid and Wonder Boys.

In May 2012, Dylan received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Barack Obama.
