Hey, everybody! Welcome to another Q & A Tuesday!
Alright so, you're seeing this video right now because we actually planned for it but
in reality right now, I am in Africa! And, I'm there teaching at The Branson School of
Entrepreneurship and hanging out with Sir Richard Branson himself which I'm very excited
about. So stay tuned because I'm probably going to be publishing some real time footage
of Africa. So you may see some lions and some tigers, and some Sir Richard Bransons. You
know all kinds of wild creatures and fun stuff! So stay tuned for that!
But now let's get back to what the focus is today which is Q & A Tuesday!
Q: So our question today comes from Mary and Mary writes:
"How do you find the confidence to put yourself out there regardless of what the haters might
say? What if people say I'm too young; I'm too old. My business model isn't "serious"
enough. I'm a fraud?"
A: And I got to tell you, Mary that is a very common question. I think it's something most
of us deal with if we're going anything creative on a daily basis. So here's what I think about
the whole confidence thing. Confidence is overrated. If you wait until you feel confident
to start anything, you're never going to start anything! You're never going to put it out
there because none of us feel confident especially in the beginning when you're first starting
a new adventure.
Anytime I began a new part of my life, like when I first started teaching dance. I was
terrified! I was shaking in my boots. When I first started making videos, I was horrible
at it! Shaking in my boots! When I first started writing, completely not confident. Insecure
but I pushed myself to do it anyway and that's really the key to, ironically, developing
some confidence. And if you haven't seen the video that we've done about how to live in
the moment, how to really silence that negative voice in your head.
You should check it out! There's a little link somewhere (http://bit.ly/liveinmoment)
on this video right now to check that one out, too. What I want to do is share a tip
with you right now that will support you in gaining self-confidence. It'll actually push
you past some of that fear and get you to just crank it out which is what we all need
to do. So here's the trick that I use, whenever I'm putting something out there and I'm fearful
of the haters, feeling insecure.
I put all my attention on the message. How am I here to help people? What do I want to
create? How is this going to support other people? If I have all the attention on myself
like, "Ooh, what's my hair look like? What's my outfit look like?" Or people thinking,
"I'm stupid or they're thinking I'm dumb!" Forget about it! It freezes me up like stage
fright.
Can't produce anything but when I put the attention out and focus on taking care of
other people and really on the message itself, smooth like butter! And if that doesn't work
for you, as a very wise and profound Willow Smith once said, "Girl, don't let the haters
keep me off my grind." (Singing: "Keep fighting until I get there
when I'm down and I feel like giving up. I think I can. I whip my hair. I whip my hair!")
