Hey guys!
Today's video is sponsored by the makers of the app
that I'm going to tell you about in this video.
And I would just like to say
a big thank you to them because it is such a nice change
to get an email from a company
with a good product
that wants me to help them advertise because
as a youtuber I probably go through
300 business emails a month
The majority of them
Like, by majority I mean 98 percent
Are from companies with really lame products that
I do not want to advertise to you guys.
So
when these guys contacted me and I downloaded their app
and I tried it out
and I actually
liked it
I was very thrilled.
So big thank you to HiNative for supporting my channel
and I hope you guys are all interested in this app as well.
So, yeah!
The name of this app is HiNative
and it is an app for language learners.
So what it is is it's a community of people that are all learning different languages
not only Japanese.
In the title I wrote
Japanese because most of you guys are interested in Japanese
But you can actually choose which languages you would like to include in your own
personal community where you use the app.
So I'll go through the whole thing with you guys
I'll start up a new account, and I'll show you how it goes.
I made an account a few weeks ago, and I've actually been using it.
It's been helping me out when I'm translating my videos into Japanese
So I've totally fell in love with it.
So if you guys are language learners like me, I would definitely suggest that you download it and try it out.
Alright, so, this is what the app looks like.
It will ask you to sign up with any of these options or you can also just sign up with your email, which I prefer doing.
So fill out that stuff
and then the next screen will ask you what languages you speak.
So you put your native language in the top there
and you can add more if you are completely native in two languages
And then down here you can add which ever other languages you are studying.
So, for me that would be Japanese.
And then choose your level.
mmm... advanced.
And you can add as many as you like.
And if you are looking for Chinese, it's under Simplified Chinese, or, I guess traditional for the other one.
Capable of making simple questions. Can understand simple answers.
I guess, that would be me.
And... i'm currently studying Korean, so I'm going to put Korean in here
Definitely beginner.
So there we go, you get your languages and once you are all done, click next.
And... there we go!
Now, it will give you a short explanation of the app.
HiNative is a Q&A platform for asking questions about language and culture to native speakers.
So it's basically just a community of language learners.
You can answers questions too! So, yeah, it's totally up to you.
You can use this app for asking your own questions
but if you see some questions on here that you feel confident in answering yourself
you can help out people by answering their questions.
So, let's try to answer your first practice question.
So, the question is
What do you eat for breakfast in your country?
Cereal!
And... that's it!
Super simple, right?
And now, It will show you how you can ask a question.
So there are several formats of questions you can ask
you'll see those as we go along.
This first one is
how do you say this in...
whatever the language
and then there is a blank for you to write whatever you want to say.
so these are all the different types of questions that you can ask.
How do you say this, does this sound natural?
And then there's like rating systems, where they can choose how natural the sentence you wrote sounds.
Please show me some example sentences with blank
What does this mean? what is the difference?
You can ask the difference between two terms or two phrases is.
And then there's free question where you can ask whatever you like.
So, for the example
Let's make a, "How do you say this?"
So, how do you say this in... yeah let's go with Japanese.
See if we get an answer.
What should we write, guys?
Last time I did this, I got an answer right away and someone's like, "Hey, I watch you videos!"
And I felt really stupid cause I was like, "How do you say this in Japanese?: Peach"
And, like, shouldn't you know that?
Cats are my favourite animal.
Once you've got your questions all typed up, you just press post!
So there's my question at the top there. If you scroll down, there are some other questions that people have asked.
Now these questions are all about Japanese. If you'd like to see the Korean questions
You just click the tab at the top there
And Simplified Chinese, because I also said I can speak a little bit of that.
So it only shows the languages that you are interested in here.
Which is nice, it keeps it nice and stream-lined. It doesn't get crowded.
So let's just wait a few minutes and see how long it takes for somebody to answer my question.
I know there are quite a few native Japanese people using this app.
Because when I scroll through the questions about English, you'll see lots of Japanese users in there.
Asking for help.
Japanese, Japanese
Japanese
So that's why I think this app is really great for learning Japanese because there are definitely lots of Japanese users using it, so.
So you can probably get help with your Japanese questions fairly quickly.
So, let's see, it's 9:17 right now, let's see how long it takes me to get an answer.
Alright, check it out guys, it's been a whole 4 minutes and I've already got an answer!
Let's see if it's right.
And their native language is Japanese, so we can probably trust them, and yes that is correct.
So, cool!
And she just wrote the hiragana reading for me, that is really nice.
So this is not a translation app, it's a community.
So you'll be getting lots of different answers from people.
People can come on here and vote on these answers, to say if they're correct.
Oh, here's another answer!
Perfect! So they gave me a couple other examples that I can use.
So this is completely different than something like Google Translation. You're getting help from actual Japanese speakers.
Not a computer.
And you can probably trust them a lot more.
So, I really, really enjoy this.
Alright, let's try asking another question. So you push the ask button down here.
"Does this sound natural?"
So for this one, you'll need to write a sentence in Japanese. So, let's write something.
Alright, so, I know this sounds natural, so let's see if people give me a truthful answer.
"My friend is coming to Japan next week, so I'm very excited."
Alright, let's check the time again. It's 9:26, let's see how long it takes to get some votes on this.
So here's the rating system: Natural, A little unnatural, Unnatural, I don't understand at all.
So, completely wrong.
So let's see how people vote on my Japanese.
Alright, so it's been a minute? 2 minutes? Not even
And already, 2 people have voted on my Japanese and they said that it sounds natural, so.
Guess that's good. I guess I'm good.
And at the bottom here, they can leave a comment as well, if they like.
It says that she voted natural, and then she left a stamp that says, "I agree", so.
Cool! Yay! My Japanese isn't horrible!
Alright guys, I hope that you found that helpful and I hope that app is something you're interested in.
If you'd like me to review any other Japanese language learning apps, or any other apps in general
Leave me some suggestions down below, and I'll happily do that.
If you have any questions on how to use this app or anything, leave them down below.
It's pretty straightforward though, so I don't think you guys would have any problem with it. But I'm very happy to answer your questions if you do have any so.
Thanks for watching, and I'll see you guys soon! Bye!
