Being in Love & Sharing The Treasures

愛にいること　そして宝を分かち合うこと

I am teaching you

私があなたに教えているのは

to be selfish.

自己中心であることだ

Let me repeat it, because the word

繰り返そう　なぜなら

"selfishness"

「自己中心」という言葉は

has been condemned so much

あまりにも非難されてきたので

that there is every possibility

私を誤解する可能性が

you will misunderstand me.

大いにありえる

But

しかし

the word

この言葉は

is really beautiful.

本当に美しい

To be selfish simply means

自己中心であるということはつまり

to be yourself.

あなた自身であるということだ

I say to you:

私が言いたいことは

don't consider anybody else in the world,

世界の他の誰のことも考えてはいけない

just consider yourself;

自分のことだけ考えなさい

and in that very consideration

そして自分のことを考えることで

you will have considered the whole world.

あなたは世界中のことを考えることになる

In being selfish

自己中心であれば

you will find

あなたは

all the altruism

利他主義を見出すことになる

that you have been seeking and seeking

それはあなたがずっと探し続けて

and not finding,

見つけられなかったものだ

because

なぜなら

the whole thing

すべてが

was upside down.

逆さまだったからだ

You are told

あなたは

to love your neighbor --

隣人を愛せと教わる

but you have never loved yourself.

しかしあなたは自分自身を愛した事がない

And a person

自分を

who has not loved himself,

愛したことのない人間が

how can he love the neighbor?

隣人を愛せるかね？

From where

いったいどこから

can he get

愛を手に入れようと

love?

いうのだ？

First you have to

まず最初に自分が

have it.

それを持っていなくてはならない

You are loving the neighbor --

あなたは隣人を愛している

you who knows nothing of love

あなたは愛について何も知らない

because you have never loved yourself.

なぜならあなたは自分自身を愛したことさえないからだ

The neighbor is loving you --

隣人はあなたを愛している

he has never loved himself.

彼は自分自身を愛したことがない

Such insanity is happening in the world:

そのような馬鹿げたことが　世界中で起きている

people are loving each other who know nothing of love.

人びとは愛について何も知らずに愛しあっている

It is like beggars

それは乞食のようなものだ

begging from each other,

お互いに物乞いしあっている

thinking

あたかも

as if the other is the emperor.

相手が皇帝であるかのように

Both are thinking in the same way:

お互いが同じように考えている

the other is the emperor.

相手が皇帝だと思っている

Both are beggars.

どちらも乞食だ

Sooner or later

遅かれ早かれ

the reality

真実が

manifests itself;

明らかになる

then there is

そうすると

misery,

惨めさ

suffering.

苦しみがやってくる

Then you think you have been cheated,

そうするとあなたは　騙されていたと思う

this beggar has been

この乞食が

trying to prove himself an emperor.

自分を皇帝に見せかけていたと思う

Now this is absolutely absurd --

さあ　これはまったく馬鹿げている

you were thinking of him

あなたは彼が

as an emperor.

皇帝だと思っていた

The same is the situation from the other side:

相手も同じように思っていた

the other person thinks you

相手はあなたが

have been cheating him,

彼を騙していたと思う

pretending to be an emperor

皇帝を装っていたと思う

and you are just a beggar.

あなたはただの乞食にすぎないのに

When both beggars find

両方の乞食が

that they are beggars,

お互いが乞食だと知ったら

what else can they do

他に何ができる

other than

腹を立てて

be angry,

カッとなって

enraged,

互いに対して

violent to each other,

暴力的になって

hating

できる限り相手を憎む以外に

each other as deeply as possible.

何ができるというのだ

And the love ...?

愛は？

It was nothing;

そんなものはなかった

they don't know what love is.

彼らは愛の何たるかを知らない

To know anything,

何かを知りたければ

you have to begin with yourself.

自分から始めなくてはならない

You have been told

あなたは教わってきた

to sacrifice yourself

自分を犠牲にしなさいと

for some

愚かな

idiotic ideal.

理想のために

I want you to be

私はあなたに

simply selfish.

ただ自己中心的であってほしい

And you will be surprised

そうすれば　驚くことに

that if you are selfish

あなたが自己中心的であるとき

you discover so many

自分の中にとてもたくさんの

treasures within yourself

宝を見つけるので

that soon you start

すぐにあなたは

sharing them --

それを分かち合い始める

because finding a treasure is a lesser joy

というのも　宝を分かち合うこととは

than sharing it.

宝を見つけることより喜ばしいからだ

And the treasures that are within you

そしてあなたの内側にある宝は

don't follow the ordinary economics

通常の経済とその法則には

and its laws.

従わない

They are just

それらはまるで

the very opposite,

正反対だ

diametrically opposite

通常の経済の

to the ordinary economic

構造とは　まったくの

structure.

逆だ

In the ordinary economics

通常の経済では

if you give something,

もしあなたが何かを与えれば

you will have less.

あなたの持ち物は減る

If you go on giving,

もしあなたが与え続ければ

soon you will be a beggar.

すぐにあなたは乞食になる

In the ordinary economic world

通常の経済の世界では

you have to snatch as much

あなたはできるだけたくさん

from everybody as possible

みんなから奪わなくてはならない

then you have

そうすれば　あなたは

more

もっと

and more and more.

もっともっと持てる

The treasures I am talking about to you,

私があなたに話している宝は

follow

別の法則に

a different law:

従っている

if you cling to them

あなたがそれにしがみつけば

they shrink,

それは縮こまる

if you cling too much

あまりにもしがみつくと

you can even kill them.

それを殺すことさえある

If you

もし

want to destroy them

それを壊したければ

then close all the windows and doors,

すべての窓と扉を閉ざして

become a grave

墓場にしてしまいなさい

so nothing can escape

そうすれば何も逃げられない

outside you --

あなたの外に出て行けない

but you will be a dead man,

しかしあなたは死人になるだろう

with all your treasures also dead with you;

すべての宝もあなたと共に死ぬだろう

your truth, your freedom,

あなたの真実　あなたの自由

your love,your joy.

あなたの愛　あなたの歓び

Everything will be dead with you --

すべてがあなたと共に　死ぬだろう

securely dead,

安全に死ぬ

well-insured.

充分に保険をかけられて

But if you want

しかし　もしあなたが

to grow your treasures,

自分の宝を育てたいなら

share them,

分かち合いなさい

share to all and sundry --

誰彼問わず分かち合いなさい

don't bother

それが友人だろうが

whether this is a friend or a foe.

敵だろうが　構うことはない

When you are sharing,

あなたが分かち合うとき

the question is of sharing,

肝心なのは　分かち合うということだ

it is not with whom.

誰と分かち合うかではない

Whomever it may concern,

関係者各位へ

you simply give.

あなたはただ与える

Don't be concerned about the address,

誰宛かなど気にしてはいけない

you simply go on sending love letters.

あなたはただラブレターを送り続ける

Somebody will receive them somewhere.

誰かがそれをどこかで受け取るだろう

And

そして

the more you go on sharing,

あなたが分かち合えば分かち合うほど

the more

どこか

goes on

未知の

entering you from unknown sources.

源泉から　あなたはもっと受け取り続けることになる

A man is just like a well ....

人はまるで　井戸のようなものだ…
