Stop in at The House of Seven Gables in Salem, built in 1668, to see New England’s oldest-surviving

wooden mansion. This incredible museum houses over 2,000 artifacts, features a large Colonial

Revival Garden, and even hides a mysterious secret staircase!

You can also step back in time at The Salem Witch Museum to learn all about the infamous

Salem Witch Trials of 1692. Here, the emotional trials are recreated with

life-size stage sets, figures, dramatic lighting and stirring narration. Afterwards, explore

the developing role of witchcraft across history with the help of a knowledgeable guide.

In Gloucester, delve into rich maritime history at America’s oldest seaport. Along the harbor,

you’ll discover The Fishermen’s Memorial, known as The Man at the Wheel, built in 1923

to commemorate the town’s 300th anniversary, and the Cenotaph that lists thousands of local

fishermen lost at sea. Nearby, The Fishermen’s Wives Memorial was unveiled in 2001, to honor

the wives and families of those fishermen, for their “faith, diligence, and fortitude.”

To truly appreciate Gloucester’s past, set sail on one of 3 locally built historic fishing

schooners for an adventurous and informative ride. Or, catch sight of a whale, and other

diverse sea life, on a whale watching tour. To complete your day at sea, enjoy locally

sourced seafood from one of over 75 restaurants on the island. Head to the hundred-year-old

Woodman’s of Essex, for traditional New England lobsters and scenic views of the Essex

River and salt marshes. Make sure to taste their legendary fried clams – Woodman’s

was the inventor of the fried clam back in 1916!
