and I reduce the tonal values to 5 levels

This is my template for painting the tonal values

With very dilute oil paint the grayscale will be painted

This is the first result.

Now I prepare the next underpainting with a 1:1 mixture of walnut oil and white spirit.

This layer must be very thin and is therefore largely wiped with paper.

Its purpose is that I can paint wet-on-wet on it.

... and so I do now with bolder colors.

This will help me to recognize the color distribution

and to identify the contrasts

So it does not get too boring,

I show this work in fast motion

Although some colors are on my palette

I only use Van Dyck brown and dark ocher

diluted with a little less white spirit

than in the first underpainting.

In the face of a little bit of orange.

I think this helps a bit for the warm candlelight

and the hair - it's done now.
