As you know we've been travelling the world for a while now and so we're sharing our recommendations on our favourite places. Right, this week we're going to do Top Ten Things to do in Scotland. Let's get started with Number 1: Edinburgh. Scotland's capital is a great place to start. It's got everything from Edinburgh castle to the beautiful old quarter and modern additions like the Fringe Festival, the largest arts festival in the world and a good place to see interesting characters, like this dude. How long has it been since I saw you? It must be 7, 8 months. I am your real father. Number 2: Glasgow. Back in the day, it was the industrial powerhouse of the North and the workshop of England. Now it's Scotland's largest city, home to a cool student vibe and a great music scene. Number 3: Stirling. It's a beautiful town and one crucial to Scottish history because it's where Scottish freedom fighter, William Wallace, fought the British for independence. Ever seen Brave Heart? FREEDOM! Number 4: Hogmany. Scotland is a land full of festivals, but the best has to be Hogmany, or Scottish New Year. Now Edinburgh, it's a giant party, but smaller villages do it pretty rad too. Check out Stonehaven for the fireball ceremony Number 5: Whisky. What's more Scottish than Scotch whisky? If you have time, go visit one of Scotland's 100 active whisky distilleries or if not, just have a dram at Scotch Whisky Experience in Edinburgh. Number 6: The Highlands. Sorry to burst your bubble, but the Loch Ness Monster does not exist. No! Find the real Scotland in the Highlands, from fishing villages to towns in the interior or off-beat places like Findhorn. Number 7: The Outdoors. Despite the rain Scotland is a great place to get outside. You can hike the Highland Way, climb up Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK, or walk 18 holes at St Andrews, the birthplace of golf. Number 8: The Islands. Now if you have the time, we highly recommend that you get out to the islands. You've got the Hebrides, the Shetlands, the Orkneys. All of these places are super authentic and they've preserved a way of life that you will not find in the big cities. Number 9: Surfing. Now Scotland is definitely not your typical surfing destination but, you know what, it's an experience and, you'd be surprised, there're some pretty good waves. But it's freezing! I'm pretty cold. You know you're in for it when your wetsuit has an emergency whistle built in. Lastly, make sure you check out celtic culture which predates the English and is best preserved through Scotland's many languages, traditions and music, the things that make Scotland so distinct from the rest of the UK.
