at Penn State University has helped

secure our nation for 70 years.

When Dr. Walker brought his 100 people here in 1945,

our nation was standing down from its largest war ever.

The vision, however, was to sustain the culture of

innovation and development

in order to keep that nation secure.

Today, we are challenged as never before,

on the sea, in the air, and space, and in cyberspace.

Thanks to the men and women at ARL Penn State,

we are up to that challenge.

- [Voiceover] In 1855, this was set in motion,

As the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania chartered one of

the nation's first colleges of agricultural sciences.

Later in 1862, Abraham Lincoln signed

the Morrill Land-Grant Act into law,

and turned what was once a school of farming

into one of the first land-grant colleges.

We were given a mission that shaped this valley,

state, and nation into a driving force

for education and research.

70 years ago, as over 100 scientists moved their undersea

research laboratory from Harvard University to Penn State,

the breadth of that mission grew.

It's about collecting some of

It's about leveraging the resources of

by pioneering new technologies in Autonomy and Robotics,

Undersea Systems,

Manufacturing Technologies,

Advanced Immersive Visualization,

Positioning, Navigation, and Timing,

Communications and Surveillance,

and Data Analytics.

It's about innovations that will not only reduce time

and cost of production, but offer advances for

the ability to repair, strengthen, and extend

the service life of our nation's platforms.
