  • (crowd cheering)

  • And I say Go Red Sox, go!

  • Narrator: On March 17th the Ablevision crew flew from Boston

  • to Fort Myers, Florida...

  • Welcome to Florida!

  • Narrator: To interview Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia.

  • This Spring Training trip was courtesy of Paul Sullivan of Sullivan Tire and Auto Service.

  • Sullivan Tire, working hard at Fort Myers, Florida.

  • Go you Red Sox!

  • Narrator: With Mary and Michael as our hosts, and Kevin as our cameraman,

  • we peppered Dustin with several tough questions about his career,

  • the upcoming season, and the Boston fans.

  • My name is Michael and

  • I'm here interviewing with Dustin.

  • How old were you when you started playing baseball?

  • I think I started playing tee-ball when I was five so

  • you know, that was my first experience playing baseball and

  • been playing it everyday ever since.

  • What's it like playing at Fenway Park?

  • Oh, it's awesome!

  • It's the best place to play.

  • The fans are the best, they support their team.

  • There's nothing like winning the game at Fenway Park and having

  • the fans go crazy.

  • Especially with the Monster and how everything is set up there

  • its definitely the best in baseball.

  • Yeah.

  • What's your Spring Training schedule like?

  • It's real early mornings. We get here early

  • like for today, I got up at 6:30 and got to the field by around 7:00.

  • I already lifted weights, talking to you guys,

  • then I gotta go hit. And then we have a practice

  • and then after the practice we kind of hang out for an hour

  • and then we go play the game. It's kind of a long day in Spring Training.

  • What are you keep in shape?

  • I work out every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Those are my lift days and

  • that's pretty much it. We play so many games it's kind of hard

  • to work out that much during the season.

  • But in the off season, I work out six times a week

  • for eleven weeks so that gets me ready for the season.

  • What was your proudest moment moment in your career?

  • Definitely when we won the World Series in 2007.

  • That was the best moment I've ever had on a baseball field.

  • It was definitely a long season and a lot of ups and downs, but in the end

  • you know, we were the last team to win our last game so that was

  • the best experience I've ever had.

  • That was 3 years ago.

  • Ha ha...yeah.

  • What's the hardest thing about playing baseball?

  • It's a tough game, you know?

  • The pitchers....they throw the ball pretty hard and you gotta try and hit it on the good part of the bat

  • I think that's why baseball is so tough.

  • I mean I know anybody, or any size can play it but you gotta

  • have some hand-eye coordination to be good at it.

  • What's the best thing about being on the team?

  • Just being around the guys.

  • You know, being around your teammates and getting to know them.

  • Getting a chance to play with Kevin Youkilis , Mike Lowell, David Ortiz

  • just being around the guys is the most special part for me.

  • What's it feel like for the Red Sox?

  • It's great playing for the Red Sox.

  • It's a first class organization, they take care of us, they treat us right.

  • It's an honor being a part of the organization.

  • Do you bring your family to the baseball games?

  • Yeah. My wife and son they've gone a couple of times.

  • We play so many games you know it's tough for them to go to all of them but

  • when we're at home they'll sneak into a few games and check it out.

  • Your newborn infant?

  • Yeah, he's almost seven months next

  • or this Thursday...I don't even know what today is.

  • But he'll be seven months and he's like 25 pounds, he's getting big!

  • He's getting ready to crawl around and start having some fun.

  • Do you have any advice for young ball players?

  • When I was a young kid, my biggest thing was enjoy baseball.

  • You know, have fun playing it, have fun with your friends

  • and just have a good time.

  • Don't take the game too seriously.

  • What do you do in your spare time?

  • Just hang out with my family, play with my little son

  • just kind of hang out, have some people, have friends over,

  • and watch TV, watch movies, stuff like that,

  • and I'm kind of a boring-guy so I can just kind of lay low.

  • Yeah.

  • What kind of music do you like?

  • I like all kinds, I'm not set on one.

  • I like rap, rock, classic rock, I like everything.

  • How is it like working with Paul Sullivan, when he's here?

  • Paul's awesome, he's been great to me and my

  • family, he has just been so fun to be around too, we've done a few commericals now and

  • it's been a blast, last couple of years he came out to Arizona, it's

  • been a blast working with him.

  • Michael: Yeah.

  • Where did you get your acting skills?

  • From Paul Sullivan, I've been watching him for years now

  • I got to take a little note from him.

  • Michael: Yeah.

  • What's your favorite video game?

  • I like a lot of video games, I play a lot

  • on Playstation 3, so I was on the cover of

  • that one video a couple of years ago, and that was a fun game to play, my guy

  • was really good, that's why I think.

  • What's it look like playing the World Series?

  • When we've won one a couple years back,

  • and we're one game away from it in 2008,

  • so that's our ultimate goal is to win the World Series for our fans

  • and for the city,

  • so we're trying to do that.

  • The Boston Fans?

  • The fans.

  • They're the best!

  • They're the best in the game, they stick by our team, and they root for us in the end

  • they're the best fans in baseball, they show up every night,

  • the sell out streak beats for itself, and it's a blast being around them.

  • How are you going to do the Red Sox this year?

  • Our goal is to win the World Series, so

  • hopefully we can accomplish that goal and we got to have everybody healthy

  • and everybody having a great year to do that,

  • so we're excited,

  • we think we have enough talent to do that,

  • all we have to do is go out there and do it on the field.

  • What do you say to all the people at the stands who doubt your ability?

  • I don't really to have say anything to them,

  • I hopefully if I play well,

  • that speaks for itself,

  • a lot of people have doubted me for the first few years,

  • and I think the way I play

  • has shown them I can play here at a high level.

  • That's it.

  • You're pretty easy on me!

  • Yeah!

  • (ablevision crew applauding)

  • (crowd cheering)

Crowd: See you guys!
