- What's up guys?
So I'm here in Las Vegas for CES 2016
checking out some of the new tech products that will
be coming out later this year.
And one of the things I've been looking at is the
wearable devices.
Now wearable fitness trackers are something that
I've been interested in for a while.
I've been using them for a while.
And I've been switching back and forth between
different brands.
So I really wanted to see what the different
big companies were coming out with
and what they could do.
One of the first things I checked out was the new
Under Armour HealthBox.
Now what this is is a new fitness tracker that also
comes in a $400 bundle with a scale and a
heart rate monitor.
Now the fitness band will track your steps,
your sleep, and your calories.
Although I'm assuming the calories you eat
will have to be inputted manually through their app.
The scale will track your weight as well as your
body fat percentage.
And the heart rate monitor will track your heart rate
during your workouts and runs.
Now this seems like it's really geared towards athletes.
And all of their marketing's certainly
really geared towards athletes.
I had a chance to take a look at the band
up close in person.
Although I wasn't able to try it on.
But it looks really similar to the UP Bands.
And I've gotta say I've used those UP Bands for a long time
and they're pretty uncomfortable to sleep in.
So with my UP Band, I ended up not using it
for sleep tracking at all and switching to the Withings Aura
system which uses a mat instead.
So I worry that this will be uncomfortable to sleep in
as well.
I also got the chance to try out the new Under Armour
app which works in conjunction with all these new devices.
And I gotta say that's probably my favorite part of this
new system.
The app is really clean and nice looking.
And everything is really super intuitive
on that home screen.
Now I was pretty excited to see what this system
has to offer, but I gotta say, I'm not sure what
it brings to the table that's new.
You know Withings has a scale that integrates
with its app as well a heart rate monitor that integrates
with its app and the new fitness band doesn't do anything
that the other fitness bands don't do.
On top of that, it's geared towards athletes.
But most of the athletes, at least the ones I know,
are already tracking their workouts using something.
And $400 is a big investment to make in a brand new
system so I'm not really sure that this is gonna
be a success but Under Armour is a really big name
that has its own following so we'll just have to wait
and see.
Now I'm a big fan of the Withings Ecosystem.
I think that their app is probably the best fitness
tracking app out there right now.
And the Withings Go is definitely something I was
interested in seeing.
The Go can be worn as a watch or it can be clipped on.
And it tracks everything you'd expect it to track.
Steps, sleeping, swimming even, it's actually
water resistant.
But the big difference here is that it uses an
E Ink display.
Now what that means is it isn't your standard
full color illuminated display that you have on something
like an apple watch.
But instead it uses a system similar to what
the Nook eReader uses.
Or if you ever had one of those old Game Boys.
That it's just black and white, no color and it doesn't
light up, it's similar to something like that.
And the advantage to using E Ink is that you don't
have to charge it very often.
It doesn't use very much power.
In fact, they say that the Withings Go will be able
to last you up to eight months without a single charge.
On top of that, it's pretty cost effective, around $69.
Although Jawbone does have a similar product
that's a little bit cheaper.
Now the last fitness tracker I was able to go and take
a hands on look at is the Fitbit Blaze.
And this is the one that's probably been getting the
most attention because it's the one that looks the
most like a smart watch.
But that being said, it is a fitness tracker.
That is what it's capable of doing.
It does not have anywhere near the capabilities of
something like the Apple Watch.
It's basically a fitness tracker with a screen.
The watch itself is fairly light.
Which I think is a good thing for working out.
But it also kind of makes it feel a little bit cheap.
I also don't think it looks very stylish.
I think the metal housing kind of looks bulky and weird.
And it's very big.
Even on my wrist.
Which is quite large.
It's also modular which means that you can switch out
the straps for new ones.
And Fitbit is going to be selling premium leather
and metal straps.
Which is where I start to get confused because if I
think about it as a fitness tracker with a screen, then
okay, I get it.
But Fitbit seems to be marketing it as more of an
all around everyday sort of device.
And it doesn't have the capabilities of the other
smart watches to begin with.
But it's also not very attractive.
It's not very stylish.
It's not something I would want to wear
all the time.
So guys that's it for this video.
I am gonna be continuing my coverage of CES 2016.
