A U.S. expert on North Korea has reached the worrying assessment that the communist state
could deploy a hydrogen bomb with a yield of one-hundred kilotons by 2020.
Joel Wit,... editor of North Korea monitoring website 38 North, said during a press briefing
in Washington on Wednesday that it was their projection that within the next five years,
the North could have a single-stage thermonuclear weapon that is five times more powerful than
the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945.
He also forecast the North could make significant progress on a two-stage H-bomb, which is a
larger yield nuclear weapon. The assessment comes after Kim Jong-un recently
claimed his country is in possession of a hydrogen bomb.
